Meshell's new stuff... next week you lucky rascals in NYC get to hear new stuff from Meshell's yet to be released "Spirit Music Sextet" project (formerly known as "Pappilon") performed live at the Blue Note.
She's playing the NEW YORK Blue Note 4 NIGHTS STRIGHT! 4/22 -4/25. Y'all got it good up there ya spoiled sunova...Yeah I'm jealous & envious. Then after that she hits NEW ORLEANS for two stops...first the Jazz Heritage Festival on 4/30 and the House of Blues on 5/1... Then its over ATLANTA on 5/2 for their Music Midtwon Festival... Then back up to MONTREAL CANADA for the Montreal Jazz Fest on 6/30... then ...very TENTATIVELY i say this... then she drops back down to hopefully hit RICHMOND VA...thats right, my back yard...around 7/2. THIS STOP IS NOT CONFIRMED YET (but I'm damn sure hoping it gets to happen.) Venue is unnannounced at this point...could be the Fridays At Sunset Festivals we have here (Roots will be there on 5/7)...or it could be a club stop at one of the very few clubs in town that she coould perhaps play..we'll see... after that she's heading across the ocean for what looks to be a great run of historical stops overseas... Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, New Morning in Paris, North Sea Jazz Fest in The Hague Netherlands, Jazz A Vienne Fest in Vienne France, Jazz Cafe in London, Wiesen Jazz Fest in Vienna Austria, Nice Jazz Fest in Nice France, and the Blue Note Festival in Ghent Belgium... man i tell ya if i had some $$... I'd be planning some trips for sure... all of this and more specific info (including links to most of the venues and links to tickets) can be found at the freemyheart.com website in the 'Tour De Funk' section. Oh and while you're there at freemyheart, check out the groovy atmospheric live version of one of her songs from her last released record that is available to dl...("Love Song # 1" from the "Comfort Woman" album as performed in Oct 2003...) One request, if you are lucky enough to catch one of these shows...post a thorough review here or on the freemyheart site...just in case the Richmond show that I would be attending doesn't get to happen...

Thanks for the information. She is the most interesting musical artist around right now. I love her stuff. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

i think she played already played in San Francisco around April 8th or something. Chances are she'll come back around there though...she plays the west coast relatively regularly

I saw her on April 8th at Bimbo's.. don't get me wrong, I LOVE me some Meshell, and I like jazz, but.. I dunno, it was good. She played bass all night which was excellent. I can't say it was spectacular though. Maybe if I had been closer to the stage, maybe if people weren't leaving halfway through her set.. ? Don't expect her to sing.. at all. But it was really great to see her on bass all night long. And I'll of course buy the album when it's out. Maybe I'll be able to enjoy it more at that time.

Meshell's lost her appeal to me. Last time i saw her at Bimbo's she put me to sleep. The pacing of her set was all over the place, it was like a long lullaby. Not enough funk for the trunk which is too bad because when she was still hungry she used to let it fly onstage.

oh i forgot to include that...I think many of the stops at this point are with her alternate Jazz band project "The Spirit Music Sextet"...so yes, don't expect singing...(she might sing sometimes I don't know because i havent heard any of the "Spirit" material myself...but from what i understand it is more towards the instrumental Jazzesque side of things...which means that instead of expressing with her voice she'll express to you with her bass...which is just fine by me! I'm looking forward to checking this stuff out myself...hope i get a chance to. if it is anyting at all like "Criterion" or "Jabril" from the Cookie album...or that instrumental "Intro" tune that she was playing before "Love Song#1" at some of last years gigs...if it's ANYTHING like those or some of her other instrument oriented tunes then I'm sure I'm gonna dig it... can't wait...
