1. Beyonce 2. Eminem 3. Usher 4. Maroon 5 5. Chingy 6. ? Well Maroon 5 aren't too bad... I think I like 'em cos their albums called 'Songs About Jane' or something like that JaneyPoos used to be it... then they changed what it was. Now what I am isn't it and what is it is strange and frightening to me...

1. E (lead singer/songwriter from the band eels)
2. Jason Little (I think that's his name...the lead guy from the band Grandaddy) 3. Kimya Dawson (who needs to get her butt in gear and make a bigger name for herself cuz she's kindasorta super brilliant, mmmkay) 4. Thurston Moore (the only living guitarist who moves me as much as Prince) 5. I'm sure there's others, but I sure can't think of em right now...

The Eels and Grandaddy are two of the best bands around. I don't know the other peeps... I also think Bill Jones (who's a young British folk singer) is an outstanding talent. As is Eric Bibb, a folk/bluesman.

I'm feeling Joss Stone. Love Res, Erykah Badu, The Roots, fucking... too many to mention. Outkast.

I really see E winding up as a songwriter for musicals when he gets older - his stuff with eels is like Cole Porter by way of Kurt Cobain. I'm amazed at how well he writes.

The Roots are fantastic I also like Outkast ... Think both have been around for a good many years though JaneyPoos used to be it... then they changed what it was. Now what I am isn't it and what is it is strange and frightening to me...

1. Beyonce 2. Eminem 3. Usher 4. Maroon 5 5. Chingy 6. ? oof... We might as well throw in one one of the America Idol winners. In playing this game and putting on my 14 year old hat, I guess I would be most excited about Christina & Justin. Judging from their live appearances over the years, these cats seem to be reinventing themselves and moving forward musically. It looks like they are standing still in todays pop world but I think they'll be around for a long, long time. Thank God I had Prince, Michael & Madonna when I was 14! I would love to add Outkast to this list, but really - they're very talented and all, but they haven't learned to take it to the next level yet. Compared to their contemporaries maybe they have, but if I see Andre3000 do one more rehashed "Hey Ya" karaoke performance, I'm going to throw my TV out the window. Same with Big Boi's performances over the past year. They both seem so careful and choreographed, there's no spontaneity or fun in what they do that doesn't seem planned down to the last twitch. If they could take a lesson from the performers who always knew to have something wild up their sleeves for their appearances, I can't even imagine how freakishly brilliant Outkast could be.
Eh, just a rant du jour...

Are we talking just the charts or artists in general? and how new? if we were talking the last ten years or so, my list would look more like:
Rashaan Patterson, Ani Di Franco, D'angelo John Mayer, Jill Scott, Van Hunt, Ben Folds Dwele Jonatha Brooke Meshell Ndegeocello Ben Harper Donnie Hefner(Lee Jones) 4Hero Tori Amos Beck Radiohead But if we just Have Eminem, Beyonce, Usher, Chingy, Maroon 5 and ? to choose from, then I agree with TheFrog: I'd Choose "?"
