carlos santana

among the eclectic rainbow of guitarists i listen 2 1n of my all time favorites is carlos santana, and this is a list of his songs i love...

she's not there (1st heard this in the movie "the long kiss goodnight", when the character samantha caine morphs in2 charli baltimore,,, and 2 further make me wanna add this 2 my mixtape staples it didn't hurt that geena davis looked damn good as a blonde...)
no one 2 depend on (1st santana jam i ever heard...)
maria, maria (a lot of hardcore fans cried foul on this and the shaman album, but this was the 1st of many songs i learned 2 play along with after gettin my 1st axe in 2000...)
game of love (i have a thing 4 a good brass section, and i always liked michelle branch's voice/style...)
soul sacrifice (1st heard this when he jammed it with prince durin the 1n nite alone tour...)
take me with you ( the 2nd half is still growin on me, but that xplosive 1st half still knocks me on my ass ...)
bella (talk about your musical viagra, this sweet sexi thing of a groove groove oughta be a slow jam tape hall of famer...lol i heard this durin the love scene in "desperado", and have been tryin 2 find the soundtrack ever since...)

Carlos is a fantastic musician and seems like a great man too. My husband is a huge fan and so am I. I'm so happy to see Carlos getting the recognition he deserves over the past few years. He is an excellent guitarist, no doubt about that.

If you can't find the soundtrack, " Bella" is also on The Carlos Santana album, " Blues for Salvador"(1987)

6 Somewhere in Heaven [from "Milagro"]
7 Take Me with you ( from "Amigos")

This afternoon I was listening to his "Supernatural" duet with Eric Clapton, "The Calling." From beginning to end, Carlos is BURNING!!!

I really wish they would remaster the following Santana albums...

*** Borboletta(1974)---this is my favorite Santana album, and I always recommend it to people who are just beginning to explore his rich catalog.

*** Amigos (1976)---by the mid-70s,Carlos was exploring funk and R&B,and on this album,he gets funkier than ever before.

*** Festival (1977)---my second favorite Santana album, this one is incredible! "Reach Up" is just mindblowing.I played this track for a friend who wasn't really into Santana, and this song made her a fan.

So far,Sony/Legacy has done a wonderful job remastering most of the essential Santana albums from the 70s (the first three, plus 'Welcome','Love Devotion Surrender',Caravanserai' and 'Moonflower'),so I hope they don't stop there.Eventually,it would be cool to get another box set, filled with more rarities (The 3-CD 'Dance Of The Rainbow Serpent' box set is nice, but I want more rare stuff, and live recordings).

I recently had the priviledge of being introduced to Divine Light. Its made up of songs from Illuminations as well as Love Devotion Surrender. Bill Laswell basically left all of the music intact , but added a few atomospherics here and there to make the songs flow into one another. It is a beautiful peice of music. N.E.W.S reminds me of this. If youre into Santana's more meditive side then you will really enjoy this.

peace.

nod 'Divine Light' is incredible, isn't it? I'd like to see Bill Laswell do this to a few other Santana albums, such as 'Silver Dreams,Golden Reality'(1979) or 'Caravanserai'(1972).

speaking of Santana,he's back in the studio working on a new album. The original plan was to release an instrumental CD called 'Hymns',but from what I've heard,Arista really wants another "pop" album from him.So it looks like 'Hymns' might be put on hold,at least for the time being.
