Janet Jackson named "Hero of the Month"

From keithboykin.com
http://www.keithboykin.co...01070.html

Janet Jackson
No matter how well her new CD Damita Jo sells, she gets credit for her resiliency and for pushing Americans to deal with their sexual hangups. In response to the post tittygate FCC conflama, CBS actually had the nerve to cut out Jackson's response to David Letterman when he asked her about the wardrobe malfunction. What was the offending language she used? She said, "Oh Jesus."

---

I agree with Keith. Janet is a strong woman and it just shows how screwed up our society's values are. Where are our priorities as a nation when we can lynch Janet for a "wardrobe malfunction," yet still pledge allegiance to a man who willingly led our nation into a war with Iraq and lied to us about WMDs. Stay strong, Janet. I love you.

That is so great to hear! Janet is such a strong, positive influence on women and people everywhere, and it's great to see her recognized in a positive light after all of this drama.

Yeah, she's a really "strong, positive influence on women ... everywhere" - whenever they want something all they've got to do is flash their tits. One more victory for women's rights. The suffragettes would be proud of our Janet.

Strong positive influence on women? No. While I agree that this whole thing was blown up beyond belief, the fact that she was willing to let a man rip her an article of her clothing off at the place where children were present, is fucked up.

So how can you say she hasn't been a positive influence on women? It's a fact that Janet has been a positive influence on millions of her fans around the world. I don't know what I'd do without her music to relate to.

i don't know if i would go so far as to say that janet is a positive female role model but i do like the approach she's taken to this whole nipple ordeal.

as far as being a role model is conerned, i guess i don't have any opinion either way. in some ways she's positive, in some ways she's not. she's just human.

Because I am a woman and she has not had a positive influence on me. There are a lot of people who do good things that I don't think are positive influences in the music industry.

I should have phrased it like that and I apologize. I am sure that there are people Ms. Jackson has had a positive influence on but I guess that it isn't for me to understand why she is being honored as hero of the month.

yeah, she's a hero alright. she's taught a generation of aspiring female musicians how to milk the same tit of an album for a decade-plus, while only having to show up in the studio to listen to a rainstorm in the headphones to work her up into an orgasm on record.

How about you do something "heroworthy" in your own life like helping out in the community or philanthropy? Instead of beating up on a celebrity who you, 1) don't know sh*t about, 2) have no interest in any f*cking way. Get a life.

1) i know a LOT about janet. i've followed her through more than half of her career.

2) i do have interest. i made that clear in my thread. i'm just disappointed that she has nothing left to offer.

3 (bonus)) typical Janazi. can't bear to hear one note of criticism about her without going into some psychotic/epileptic seizure and getting the claws out. rolleyes i've seen your kind before. you've GOT to be a miss-janet list/forum member. am i right? biggrin

1) Ooh, you've followed Janet... who hasn't?

2) Yes, that's YOUR OPINION. Notice: YOU'VE CRASHED MY THREAD and started the Janet bashing and I'm not supposed to react or take offense? What sense does that make. I have not crashed your "Janet's lazy" thread because you know what... YOU'RE ENTITLED TO YOUR OPINION.

3) "Janazi," eh. How long it took you to coin that? rolleyes I can take tons of criticism, WHEN IT'S CONSTRUCTIVE. If it delineates to the tired level of dissing Janet, saying that her whole career was based on "milking a tit," then that's where I will have a difference of opinion with you and I will call you out on it. You obviously didn't hold Janet that highly anyway even when you were in your so-called "fan" stage if the two-second flashing of a "tit" estimates the legitimacy of her career in your eyes.

I guess we should then dismiss all of Prince's work since he wore assless pants to the VMAs back in the early 90s. Let's dismiss Michael since he's "Mr. Chester, The Child Molestor" and nevermind a 30+ career of music.

i've followed her more closely than 99.9% of the public. i am (or was) a hardcore janet fan for about 10 years.

i just find it interesting that after all the brouhaha over the SuperBowl and bad/scathing album reviews that someone has deemed her worthy of some humanitarian award. but i suppose the PR show must go on, as this was probably set up to coincide with the release of her album months before she belly-flopped. biggrin

actually, it's fans like you that pushed me over the edge. i used to offer constructive criticism of her in the janet online community, but even that is a no-no. so now i just get off on pushing janet fans' buttons. wind 'em up and watch 'em go.... they're crazier than even Prince fans. and that's saying something biggrin rage on...

Ok, let's get real. Yes, she handled the Superbowl fiasco well. Do I think she intended to 'open our eyes to a moral double standard blah blah blah blah'? No, that probably was not the original intention - which was to sell more copies of Damita Jo, no doubt. I don't think she's much of a "hero", but I do think she's a great philanthropist (has been for years) and should be awarded for that. If she inspires you, that's great, too.

I can think of many people who deserve this award more, like the physicians at a local hospital who performed the world's first kidney/pancreas transplant and cured a woman of diabetes.

Heroic for that? Nahh.

And hell, WHY is CBS so damn overly sensitive with their continued knee jerk reactions???? What a bunch of idiots.

I loved that post-9/11 article in The Onion: "Nation Longs to Care About Stupid Bullshit Again", with pictures of J-Lo and Britney Spears adorning it. I guess we're at that point again.

LOL! lol See, Topdog! Even newly-proclaimed, card-carrying "Janazis" such as myself (thanks to the almighty, all-knowing Topdog for the new moniker) can have a sense of humor. YAY! I'M A "JANAZI??" WTF.

Ok, where's my Janet swastika? Where's my Storm Trooper gear? OK, uhhh, this little Hitler beard doesn't go well with my platinum nipple ring. ::being cynical::

Look, y'all, Janet isn't Shirley Chisholm or Sojourner Truth. There have been better female singers, and there have been better female musicians. But what I can say about Janet is:

1. She has brought a spirit of independence and confidence to her music that has likely inspired younger fans (dare I say) around the world.

2. She has made some meaningful music in her career: the 1814 LP, "Let's Wait A While," etc.

3. She's got great producers who can put together great dance songs and great slow jams for her.

4. She is an outstanding stage entertainer. Yeah, I know she's not Ella on stage, but she is entertaining.

5. And she fine.

She's on the inevitable down-side of her career arc, which may yet have a third upside (with her early TV career being the first and her Control LP to the present being her second). The reality is she's pushin' 40 and she and another certain mid-fortysomething betta recognize that the pie is being split for the Beys, Alicias, Britneys, etc. She's going to have to adjust a lil' bit.

Janet's not a "hero" of mine, but she is one of the top entertainers of her era and I enjoy a lot of her music.

all the more reason to actually get her head in the game and come out with something fresh. so, since she's got a lot of competition, she's just supposed to curl up in the fetal position and not try?

seems like that's what she's doing.
