General rules for your record collection: 1. Do not own any albums with green cover art. Because all albums with green cover art inevitably suck.
2. It's better to trash embarrassing records than give them away for free. 3. There is no limit how much money per month you can spend on rare, expensive, out-of-print items. 4. Owning Jill Scott or Common records doesn't make you "an expert on African-American culture". 5. If your neighbour owns it, ditch it. If your hairdresser knows it, ditch it. 6. It's perfectly normal too feel uneasy about the balance of how your records appear in the alphabetical order. If there are for instance unfitting items at the letter "S" you are far better off getting rid of them than letting them drive you nuts. 7. You don't need to own all albums by ANY artist. In fact, it makes you look like a kid. 8. That's not jazz. 9. If you insist on owning any gothic music make sure your record collection is otherwise so big that "they are there just for variety". 10. Foreign imports are genuinely cool - "foreign" however doesn't mean UK. 11. Gothic music is for kids. 12. If you can buy it from a record store, it's not alternative. 13. Real music lovers don't buy music based on artists they like, they buy music based on record labels. 14. Old music is for assholes. 15. If you've been fooled to buy vinyl consider this: had the artist originally intented to have that "warm vinyl sound" to his recording he could have had it all downmixed to vinyl and transported it back to CD and the result would have been exactly the same. But he didn't - so you've just spent 20$ on a format that is best suited for fetishist clothes. | |
