I really like Butterflies, HCW, but especially what does it 4 me on Invincible is Whatever Happens. This is the killer that would have gone top 10 4sure, if not no 1. Shows how bad his deciion making has become in terms of music, when he decides not 2 release it as a single.

I agree,"Whatever Happens" was a surefire Top 10 smash just begging to be released. But I don't know if we can totally blame Michael for not releasing it.It seems as if Sony quickly lost interest in the project after the first single.

I would go as far 2 say that it has some of the magic that his old songs had. I know that sony had a lot 2 say, but surely if he was dead set on wanting it released they would have listened? Well mayb Sony wouldn't. Releasing this as a single instead of cry would have been the best move. I mean many ppl don't even know cry was a single.

I'm surprised the album was released at all. Sony & Michael were apparantly battling before it came out. I think Butterflies, Unbreakable, Whatever Happens and Break Of Dawn could've all done good business in the US if promoted properly. Nevermind, eh!

Yeah, but radio was pretty reticent to play Michael at that time - even with Tommy Mottola's airplay manipulation power. YRMW only barely managed #10 (I thought it would go top 5 at least, but it stalled). Butterflies reached #14 and that was it for singles. I think it's safe to say Sony doesn't consider Michael much of a property anymore, except for back catalogue and greatest hits releases.

But it did amazing things considering the limited promo etc Still a no1 on Billboard. That's the chart that counts.

But then, so did "American Life" (although Michael's album definitely sold more and remains undercertified). If the star is big, the album will open well without much promo. But Sony killed any chances of major success with a haphazard radio release schedule and a lack of confidence in Michael's singles. To be fair, Michael is definitely an EXPENSIVE artist. Especially video-wise (he bitched and moaned when they tried to put him on a budget), so I think that after the first few weeks of sales were not indicative of a blockbuster, Sony simply gave up and cut their losses. That happens with too many albums and artists.

It's shocking that Sony didn't drop him, really.

I thought that releasing no'1 was part of the whole deal...he neeed to release an album 2 fulfill the contract .....so he gave them another greatest hits package- the easiest way out....could b wrong tho...interesting....

the best thing about 'Invincible' are the slower tracks and ballads."Heaven Can Wait","Break Of Dawn","Butterflies","Whatever Happens" and "Speechless" are the album's highlights. The uptempo songs are just so-so. It's all about production. Teddy Riley's ballads have never been his strong point (exceptions "Make It Last Forever", "I Like The Way" and a few others, but he came 2 MJs party in 2001, "Heaven Can Wait", "Don't Walk Away" and "Whatever Happens" r all pure Teddy Riley. Darkchild on the other hand, had a hard time coming up with the uptempo funk slammers 4 the album, it's easy in hindsight, but maybe THE NEPTUNES or TIMBALAND woulda been a better choice, sorry DARKCHILD. I don't mind his tracks tho'. My tracklisting... INVINCIBLE HEARTBREAKER THREATENED 2000 WATTS SHOUT YOU ROCK MY WORLD WHATEVER HAPPENS BUTTERFLIES BREAK OF DAWN HEAVEN CAN WAIT DON'T WALK AWAY CRY YOU ARE MY LIFE SPEECHLESS THE LOST CHILDREN INVINCIBLE ***I personally think TITLE tracks should start or finish an album. Ronster... BTW - what was the name of the rock track with Slash? it was pretty ordinary and didn't fit on my CD with "SHOUT" included, so "SHOUT" (as weird as it is) got the nod.
