Brick House
Easy
Nightshift

Brick House
Uh, mmm, mmm, mmm

Ow, she’s a brick house
She’s mighty, mighty
Just lettin’ it all hang out
Ow, she’s a brick house
I like ladies stacked, that’s a fact
Ain’t holdin’ nothin’ back
Ow, she’s a brick house
Well-built together, everybody knows
This is how the story goes

She knows she’s got everything
That a woman needs to get a man, yeah, yeah
How can she lose, good stuff she use
36-24-36, what a winning hand

‘Cause she’s a brick house
She’s mighty, mighty
Just lettin’ it all hang out
Hey, she’s a brick house
Oh, like ladies stacked, that’s a fact
Ain’t holdin’ nothin’ back

Oh, she’s a brick house, yeah
She’s the one, the only one
Built like an amazon

Mmm, the clothes she wear, her sexy ways
Make a old man wish for younger days, yeah, yeah
She knows she’s built and knows how to please
Sho’nuff can knock a strong man to his knees

‘Cause she’s a brick house
Yeah, she’s mighty, mighty
Just lettin’ it all hang out
Hey, brick house
I like a lady’s stacked, that’s a fact
Ain’t holdin’ nothin’ back, ow

Shake it down, shake it down, down
Shake it down, shake it down, down
Shake it down, shake it down, down
Shake it down, shake it down, down, down

Shake it down, shake it down, down
Shake it down, shake it down, down
Shake it down, shake it down, down
Shake it down, ow

Brick house
Yeah, she’s mighty, mighty
Just lettin’ it all hang out
Ow, a brick house
Yeah she’s the one, the only one
Built like an amazon, yeah

Shake it down, shake it down, shake it down, down
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it down, down
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it down, down
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it, shake it

Shake it down, shake it down, shake it down, down
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it down, down
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it down, down
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it

Ow, a brick house

Easy

Know it sounds funny, but I just can’t stand the pain
Girl, I’m leaving you tomorrow
Seems to me, girl, you know I’ve done all I can
You see I begged, stole and I borrowed, yeah, ooh...

That’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like Sunday morning
That’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like Sunday morning

Why in the world would anybody put chains on me, yeah
I’ve paid my dues to make it
Everybody wants me to be what they want me to be
I’m not happy when I try to fake it, no, ooh...

That’s why I’m easy, yeah
I’m easy like Sunday morning
That’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like Sunday morning

I wanna be high, so high
I wanna be free to know the things I do are right
I wanna be free
Just me, whoa, oh, babe

Ooh

That’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like Sunday morning, yeah
That’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like Sunday morning, whoa

‘Cause I’m easy, woo
I’m easy like Sunday morning, yeah
‘Cause I’m easy
I’m easy like Sunday morning, whoa

‘Cause I’m easy

Nightshift

Mmm...hmm...

Marvin (Marvin, Marvin)
He was a friend of mine
And he could sing a song
His heart in every line

Marvin (Marvin, Marvin)
Sang of the joy and pain
He opened up our minds
And I still can hear him say

Ah, talk to me so you can see
What’s goin’ on
Say you will sing your songs
Forevermore, evermore

Gonna be some sweet sounds
Coming down on the nightshift
I bet you’re singing proud
Oh, I bet you’ll pull a crowd

Gonna be a long night
It’s gonna be all right on the nightshift
You found another home
I know you’re not alone on the nightshift

Oh, you found another home
I know you’re not alone on the nightshift

Jackie (Jackie), mmm
Hey what you doin’ now
It seems like yesterday
When we were workin’ out

Jackie (Jackie), oh
You set the world on fire
You came and gifted us
Your love it lifted us higher and higher

Keep it up and we’ll be there
At your side
Oh, say you will sing your songs
Forevermore, evermore

Gonna be some sweet sounds
Comin’ down on the nightshift
I bet you’re singin’ proud
Oh, I bet you’ll pull a crowd

Gonna be a long night (Gonna be a long night)
It’s gonna be all right on the nightshift
You found another home
I know you’re not alone on the nightshift

Gonna be some sweet sounds (Sweet sounds)
Comin’ down on the nightshift (Oh, on, the nightshift)
I bet you’re singin’ proud (I know you’re singin’ proud)
Oh, I bet you’ll pull a crowd (Oh, yeah)

Gonna be a long night (All right)
It’s gonna be all right on the nightshift (On the nightshift)
You found another home
I know you’re not alone on the nightshift

Gonna miss your sweet voice (Sweet)
That soulful voice (Soulful noise) on the nightshift (Nightshift) (On the nightshift)
We all remember you (Remember you, remember you)
Ooh, the songs are coming through (Whoa, whoa, whoa, oh, oh)

At the end of a long day (Long day)
It’s gonna be okay on the nightshift (Nightshift)
You found another home
I know you’re not alone on the nightshift

Gonna be some sweet sounds (Sweet, sweet sounds)
Comin’ down (Comin’ down ) on the nightshift

Oh man,it's hard to pick just three songs, but here goes...

*** "Sail On" (1979)---dontcha just love the lyrics to this song? Lionel always had a "nice guy" image, but on this tune,he's fed up and he's not taking it anymore...lol...demanding his lover to "sail on...honey...good times never felt so good".I also love the down-south country feel of this song, which Lionel used to great effect on future classics like "Stuck On You" (arguably his best song as a solo artist).

*** "Just To Be Close To You" (1976)---it's really important to have the full-length album version of this song, because it features a lengthy spoken segment that is just priceless. This is one of their most soulful slow jams ever.

*** "Funky Situation" (1977)---This song is from the self-titled 1977 album which contains the hits "Brick House" and "Easy".But "Funky Situation" is my jam! It's a kickass track that lives up to it's name.Am I the only one who goes crazy over this song?

I just recently discovered this song! It's on a new compilation CD by Jamiroquai called "Late Nite Tales".They picked their favorite songs, the songs that inspired them, and the Commodores track is the second song.

It's a shame that most of their 70s albums are out-of-print.I really, really need the 'Hot On The Tracks' album (1976),which is their second best album (1977's 'The Commodores' is their best work, imo).

I agree with you 100% about those first two songs and probably would with the 3rd if I knew it. Lionel was at his best doing his country thang.

"...Gave ya all my moneyyy an' my tiiii-ime. I know it's a shame but I'm givin' ya back ya naaaaa-a-a-ame." music

That spoken segment and the musical build-up at the beginning of "Just To Be Close To You" make the song a classic. That and the serious country twang in it.

"...Aww girl. Material thangs I thought had so much valya. Aww girl.."

I loved Stuck on You for that same country flavor. "...packed up my troubles and I've thrown them all away.. ..Cause this time little darlin' ,I'm comin' home toooo stayyyy. " lol

I guess I'm a country boy at heart. smile
