All 3 are timeless records with dated production. "Purple Rain" is the least dated (you can still hear Prince's influence everywhere these days) and "Like A Virgin" is the most dated.

Like A Virgin. It's a very campy LP filled with bubble gum confectionaries like "Material Girl" and the title track. "Dress You Up" is sugary, too. LAV is definitely a product of the 80s.

Thriller has classics such as "Billie Jean" and "Thriller" that still sound fresh and inventive. "Human Nature" and "The Lady In My Life" are beautiful, timeless ballads. The only dated song on Thriller is "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)" and quasi-"Baby Be Mine."

Purple Rain isn't dated, IMO. It still has a great sound. I think it's leftfield vibe is what makes it timeless.

yep, Price was ahead of the curve, in other words. Purple Rain is pretty timeless. To me that's the mark of a good album.

Believe it or not, I have never listened to a complete madonna album, so I can't comment on how dated Like A Virgin is. But between Thriller and Purple Rain, Thriller is the dated one for sure. MJ was milking maintream whims while Prince was treading a path nobody had trodden.

Like a virgin, i guess.

But it's still a great album - it's just that it sounds very 'of-its-time'; very 80s beats and stuff. But then Off the Wall sounds incredibly of-its-time as well, but it's got to be one of the best albums i've ever heard.

'Like A Virgin'.It's one of those albums that was great in it's day,but when you play it these days,it sounds dated and silly.Especially when you compare it to her recent albums.

Michael's 'Thriller' album still sounds fresh and vital EXCEPT for the title track. It was a lame song back in 1982,and it's still a lame song after all these years...lol...

'Purple Rain' is another album that still sounds fresh and vital after all this time. The song "When Doves Cry" in particular doesn't sound the least bit dated.

An interesting point...back in 1984,the general consensus was that Madonna was the least talented of the three, and that she would be a one-hit wonder.Who would have thought that,20 years later, she would still be around?

I'll have to go with the general concensus here. "Like A Virgin" is easily the most dated out of the 3. The drum machines, synthesizers, and glossy production make it sound like it is of the 80's. Some of the tracks stand the test of time like "Shoo-Bee-Doo" and "Angel", but then some like "Stay" and even "Dress You Up" just make you reminisce of the days when you drove your Ferrarri in your Miami Vice jacket with a "Where's the beef?" bumper sticker.

Yeah, Like a Virgin definitely. Does not make it a bad record, though, imo. Although it's not nearly as good as the other two mentioned.

Granted. It's not one of his better songs... and yet it's nearly always at the top of any fan polls for "Best MJ song". hmm It works well with the video... maybe that's why. hmmm

I always thought that song was absurd, with silly lyrics like...

"and there ain't no second chance against the thing with forty eyes, girl"

lol the video saved that song
