20th century composer of the day: Karlheinz Stockhausen

Karlheinz Stockhausen (Born in 1928, Cologne, Germany) is widely regarded as one of the most influential composers of the postwar era. His widespread use of electronics throughout his work has had a lasting impact on the classical, avant-garde, and electronic music communities.

Here's a track from Stockhausen's "Mantra"

Enjoy!

Respect for bringing Stockhausen onto the Org!

I'm no expert on his music, but from the little I've heard, he sounds interesting. I'm currently reading/ listening up on 20th century 'classical' music, such as Stravinsky, Messiaen, Varese, Webern and others.

I've got Stockhausen's 'Aus den sieben Tagen', but have hardly played it. I must go back and listen to it again.

Have you guys ever checked out any of Edgard Varez' stuff? If I'm not mistaken, he was the first composer of concert music to start using electronics. It's real primitive, but interesting stuff!

The 'tribal chanting' at first; couldn't tell if that was part of it or not. But I like what I heard after that. The sounds remind me of water and glass (I don't mean Phillip either) wink . Don't ask. lol Thanks for the link. I've heard the name previously, but was unfamiliar with his work.
