So,what's your favorite Cameo jam? Here's mine....

"Freaky Dancin" (1981) headbang headbang headbang headbang

(written by Larry Blackmon-Tomi Jenkins)

People who listen
for the best sound in the groove
We know we've got the music
that makes your body move

We like to dance, shake your booty, come and dance
but you've got to have the moves to impress all your friends
Just move a little freaky,go real slow, take your time
you've got to give your best to be right all the time

If you dance with me and you like just what you see
then I know you'll have this next one with me
cause...

(chorus)
We are now freaky dancin, and romancin'
let's do it some more
You can't feel what you're fakin',so shake your pants and
we'll party for sure (we'll party for sure)

Uh-uh
Uh-uh

In order to move like this yes
you got to have confidence
Tell everybody that they'll have to wait
for the nation to participate

You ready?

New York (Freaky dancin')
L.A. (Freaky dancin')
Atlanta (Freaky dancin')
Cincinatti (Freaky dancin')
Chi-Town (Freaky dancin')
Detroit (Freaky dancin')
Newport News (Freaky dancin')
and our friends in Baton Rouge

(chorus)
They are now Freaky dancin, and romancin'
let's do it some more (let's do it some more)
You can't feel what you're fakin' (hey) so shake your pants and
we'll party for sure (we'll party for sure)

Uh-uh
(Freaky deaky)
Uh-uh

(Ow,now,now,now)

If there's some places that you think we've missed
how can you say that with a groove like this?
The other places are just waiting to break, just get it on,baby, rock and shake

You ready?

DC (Freaky dancin')
Dallas,Fort Worth (Freaky dancin')
Houston (Freaky dancin')
Philadelphia,PA (Freaky dancin')
South Carolina (Freaky dancin')
Cleveland (Freaky dancin')
New Orleans (Freaky dancin')
They're as freaky as can be

(chorus)
They are now Freaky dancin',and romancin'
let's do it some more (let's do it some more)
You can't feel what you're fakin',(hey) so shake your pants and
we'll party for sure (we'll party for sure)

One of the hardest greatest groups of all time. Larry Blackmon is surely one of the most underrated underappreciated leaders in funk/R&B music. These guys just kept the hits coming in the late 70's early 80's.....Just a few of my favorite jams

Just Be Yourself(1982)....One of the tightest bass riffs in the history of FUNK!!!!!
Sparkle(1979)
Talking Out The Side Of Your Neck(1984)
Back And Forth(1986)
Skin I'm In(1988)....one of the deepest songs lyrically in the funk vein of things EVER made!!

Larry always kept him a lean tough bassist in the Cameo fold and his ability to write music for a huge amount of musicans is great(Cameo had about 30 guys in their group back in the day biggrin ) . These guys are GREAT!!!! Larry and Cameo used to live in Atlanta back in the 80's. And it was common to see Larry driving around the ATL back then.....He attended our high school graduation and I miss seeing/meeting him by 5 MINUTES!!!!! But I actually know Anthony Lockett who was their guitarist/background vocalist during the early configuration of this great group.....He is extremely talented in his own right. Had the pleasure of watching him work in the studio. He put out a inspirational jazz CD 5 years ago that was great.

I've been meaning to post a Cameo thread. (Larry Blackmon's red codpiece has been on my mind lately.) smile "It's Serious" is my favorite. I saw them at Radio City Music Hall in the 80s and still have the t-shirt!

My two favs as well. My favorite Cameo song is the last track from KOTST "I Like It". It is really hard to limit it to just one as I love so many Cameo songs. My Top 10 would look like this.

I Like It - Just a funky funky groove with a little rock touch

Flirt - Again, just down right funky. Best cut from one of there

This Life is Not For Me - Most people overlook the album style. While it's not among their best, there are a couple really great songs on there. Always loved the line "We come on right after Bobby Debarge" from this song.

Candy - The fact this song is played to death on old school radio stations and I can still listen to it all the way through, speaks volums.

Shake You Pants - Classic Cameo feel good jam

Be Yourself - Great lead track to a great album.

She's Strange - This was sort of Larry Blackmon's coming out party. I didn't think he could carry a single as the front man but he proved my wrong with this one. One of the first (after Teena Marie) groups to include a rap in their song.

Sparkle - Might be the best slow jam of all-time. Top 10 at the very least.

Don't Be So Cool - Breezy but funky at the same time. "ahh, ahh, ooo" Pure Cameo.

Keep It Hot - Just down-right nasty bass-line

Others that didn't make my top 10: Slow Movin, Your Love Takes Me Out, I Just Want To Be, Cameosis, We All Know Who We Are, I Care for you..... aww shit I could go on and on. Don't get me started on Cameo lol

Out of the entire Cameo catalog...despite their funk. My favorite jam is a ballad "Hangin' Downtown" I worship this song.
