The G.Q. Thread Remember them?
They disco'ed their way into Disco Nights (Rock, Freak!) and slowly sang their way into the remake of "I Do Love You"... their sound, their smooth and tight arrangements were hard to top. Remember them? |

GQ is one of my favorite bands from the Disco era.Their 1979 debut hit "Disco Nights (Rock Freak)" is one of disco's brightest moments....a breezy,synth-heavy jam that could leave you delirious on the dancefloor. And who can resist that throbbing bassline?
They came up with several other impressive jams in the early 80s... ***"I Do Love You" (1979) ***"Standing Ovation" (1980) ***"Sitting In The Park" (1980)---another Billy Stewart cover ***"Don't Stop The Feeling" (1980)---not sure if this song was ever released as a single, but it's their best slow jam. ***"Sad Girl" (1981) ***"Shake"(1981)---this was their last real hit,and it's their best song since "Disco Nights". GQ is still around, playing those "Super Oldies" R&B concerts (I saw them last year),but it's basically just the lead singer.

"the music's full of joy and laughter
and it's such a thrill to free your mind from all the pressure head on up the hill You say you wanna reach the sky? so get up! The feeling's right, and the music's tight,on a disco night the feeling's right, and the music's tight on a disco night"

David you never cease to amaze me. GQ was one of my favorite groups as a kid. I loved all the songs you listed. Someday (In Your Life) is another cut from them I dug. I'm glad you mentioned Shake. I loaned that album to a friend in the early 80's and he ended up getting it stolen. For the life of me I can't remember the name of that album. I just remember I was their 3 faces with a white background. AllMusic.com doesn't even list this album as part of their catalog. But props for bringing GQ up David. They were a great group that is all to often forgotten about. Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance
