Hi everyone:

It is with deep sadness that I learned late last night of the passing of
one of my closest and dearest friends, Doris “Just One Look” Troy.
Doris – who passed in her sleep yesterday in Las Vegas - was a constant
source of encouragement and inspiration for me and for so many of the
people with whom she came in contact and while my world will be a little
more empty without her, I know heaven is a little brighter today. I
profiled Doris as a chapter in my 1999 book "The Soulful Divas" as one
of the "workaday R&B stars of the 1960s who never received mass
recognition but who continue to share their talent." I will miss her
laugh, her words of wisdom and her soulful music and was happy to
include her in my book "The Soulful Divas."
