It strikes me that Macy Gray is hardly being discussed at this forum, while she is in my opinion the funkiest woman in the business. She's cool, she's nasty, she's a freak.

So I think it's time for a Macy appreciation thread, for Macy is the one and only Funkateer of the new generation.

What do y'all think?

It's a shame that she's being ignored by the masses.I think she's really talented with something new and different to offer.Isn't she currently on tour with David Bowie?

What about her being ignored by the masses: I do'nt think that's a problem. She stays true to her musical background and gives it a new spin, creating a style of her own. That's a thousend times better than being a commercial sell- out!

However, it indeed would be nice if her music was played more on the radio or MTV, but that counts for the most good artists. I think we just have to accept that there's no good music on the radio!

Don't if The ID is one of the best releases ever, because I can't really pick one of her albums being the best. It's like choosing the best child among your own children. Saying that the ID is her best album would make her other albums feel upset.

I had no real appreciation of Macy until I saw her a few weeks ago with Bowie. I had no idea how funky she was! Now I'm planning to get all her music.

Her music is a little bit one dimensonal IMO, but she´s got a unique voice and I really like some of her songs. And she´s a great live artist, very funky indeed.

Macy Gray's first two albums are two of my favourites in recent memory. "The Trouble With Being Myself", while not as good, was unfortunately ignored.

But Macy, babe, you seriously need to lay off the pot, ok? It's not good to look frazzled and stoned in every single photo/public appearance.

Macy is very cool and a breath of fresh air. I love her music and her unique voice. Unfortunately, she ain't got nothing overly sexy to shake or reveal, so perhaps that's part of the reason why she doesn't get much notice.

That's exactly the reason I don't like her. When she first came out, I heard the song, thought it was cool, then I saw her interviewed on vh1 or somehthing. She was stupid as hell and I was turned off right away. I mean, Christina Augilera was on before her and she was articulate. I think it was grammy nominations or something. Then Macy comes on and I was like, wow, what a difference. Of course, now Christina has gone downhill.

I love how each album is different and it seems like she's growing as an artist.

She's getting into acting I've recently read somewhere but her last album didin't sell that well.

I haven't seen her public appearances and I'm kind of glad now.

I have only played her new one 2 times when it came out--I coldn't get into it because it wasn't immediately The Id...and so many other releases were purchased


I realize I have this practically unheard Macy release ..I need to play it and give it a chance etc

Bootsy Collins & George Clinton spoke greatly of her being the FUNK queen of this generation.

I don't have a problem with he act, she's uninhipited(on stage and obeviously off). Remember, Chaka Khan was EXACTLY like that in the 80's(same spontanious spirit and same nasty mouth) thats what I like about them.

They also share this problem(DRUGS) not Chaka anymore tho.

I love Macy! Her voice is great, and so are her songs. I also loved her rendition of "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" at Icon: Janet.
