Well, they at least picked two Madonna songs wink

But even here they screwed up...her best 80s single is "Like A Prayer"!

I actually like this list. For once I see a list that I could appreciate.

"Like A Virgin" is one of Madonna's worst singles, IMHO. Has NOT aged well. I know why they picked it, though - because they think it's her defining moment, pop-culture wise. Now where is "Like A Prayer" when you need it?

Also, what is "Sexual Healing" doing there? I love me some Marvin but that is NOT top-40-of-the-decade material.

I agree."Like A Prayer" pretty much KILLS all of her earlier singles and I can't see why it's not on this list.

Other dubious notices:

28 Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Relax
1983

37 R.E.M.
It's the End of the World As We Know It
(And I Feel Fine)
1987

34 U2
Pride (In the Name of Love)
1984

35 Pixies
Gigantic
1988

Good singles, granted, but NOT "top-of-the-decade" material. We need decade-defining singles here. Out of all the wonderful 80s U2 singles they picked THAT? Where's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For"? And REM went on to do much, much better work in the 90s - and that's where they belong.

A bit obvious coming from me but either Running Up That Hill or Cloudbusting should have been in there. Possibly both. They're two of the most original and extraordinary songs to have ever graced the singles chart - regardless of which decade.

And where is the Bee Gees' You Win Again? The biggest selling single of '87 (not that the US would know that!) and still a damn fine pop song. I guess it got overlooked 'cos it's the Bee Gees.

Oh well, at least The Stone Roses got a mention. smile

You fools! It's gotta be Sandra's "In The Heat Of The Night". What else?
