What are these people about anyway? I'm supposed to get their album for someone as a Christmas present, and I have no idea who this band is. They're not like Nazi anti-gay hate rock, are they?

no no they're from southern california, anti iraq war, the lead singer apparently dressed in drag for halloween. i'm sure they're fairly liberal.

"He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice"

Sorry, didn't wanna jack your thread conch!!! Erm, just ignore me...

Just read your hot chocolate post...that stuff will make you sick!

I had to resurrect this thread because I'm becoming such a fan of this group and I want other people to discover them too.
They have a sound I think a lot of Prince fans would like. Listen to something like "Sunday Morning" (which you can hear on the music player at http://www.maroon5.com )or "Woman" (available on the internet).
It seems they actually do a cover of "Darling Nikki" sometimes (I can't wait to find that!) as well as Pharell's "Frontin", Nine Inch Nails' "Closer" and AC/DC's "Highway to Hell". Great influences if you ask me!
Check them out I promise you won't be sorry.

I kinda dig them too. They have what few modern rock bands possess today: SOUL!!!

They've definitely got a rock/soul thang going on. But they're kinda losing cool points. Probably because I wanted them to become that band that stays underground. But nooo. They had to get some attention from MTV and VH1 and stuff. Now they're beginning to blow up and I think that's kinda killing my interest in them. I liked them when nobody else was into them. And this was all the way back in 2002. Now that folks are catching on, they're not as appealing anymore.

I see your point but becuase I like them I want them to have success. And if they're popular I get to see more of them (videos, publicity) and more likely to get another album from them. And who knows if they're on TRL (January 13th) maybe they'll help some of the Britney crowd see the light. They seem to have that perfect blend of intelligence and excitement necessary to change the trend in time. Similar to how Nirvana was in the early 90s. People thought intelligence was boring but then because of the appeal of the frontman, it became interesting. I'm not saying I expect M5 to be as big as Nirvana. Baby steps..

lovebizzare

I LOVE the song "this love" (I think that's what it's called)

It always confuses me why people get pissed when an artist becomes popular, it seems like if they like them so much they would want them to have success.

I've seen this happen with Prince, No Doubt, and many "New Wave" bands in the 80s, and, more recently; Kelis and The Black Eyed Peas. Why?

I think it's quite strange to ONLY be interested in a band/artist when they're undiscovered, it's quite a shame thta people want to be so hip to only liking underground artists. oh well shrug

If you can find the song "Rag Doll" I think a Prince fan would really really like that. I can totally imagine Prince singing it. I might think he wrote it if I didn't know better. The beginning actually sounds a lot like the beginning of "The Ladder" to me.

I've been messing around with a rock band for the past year, and we started doing "Harder To Breathe" when their album first came out. People seem to really dig that tune.

They are this year's Soul Decision. That's not a bad thing; its a "blue-eyed funk" thing. They're a nice little group. Catchy tunes.

I need to get the Harder To Breathe single as well for the song Rag Doll. Shame it wasn't on the album, it would've been the perfect track to close with.

Looove RagDoll. My favorite song of the moment is "Through With You". There are streaming live songs at www.m5live.com, including two covers of Nine Inch Nails' "Closer" and AC/DC "Highway to Hell". Let me know if you find the cover of "Darling Nikki", I'm dying to hear it!
