A pop here and there is cool, and sounds great in production where it is SUPPOSED to sounds like a sample being recontextualized into a new form.

When Dream Warriors made "Ludi", they purposely did not clean up the vinyl they sampled off, to create that organic sound of obviously sampling an older source.

It's great for nostalgia's sake!

That being said, I only get vinyl if I can't find it first on CD.

I agree, some oldies just dont sound classic enough without a few scrathces and pops. I really like it on Misdemenor.

Anyway i dont like those sampled oldies sounds, r&b songs have too much of them and it just sounds 2 fake now. But if Alecia Keys put that on "U Dont KNow My Name" i would love 2 hear the scratches and stuff. Puts a picture in my head of all that brown and tan of the 70's soul
epic records

I think like that when it comes to music before 1970. I like my oldies to sound grainy and dated. I like the mono sound instead of stereo when listening to oldies. Especially the old stuff by Phil Spector (Crystals, Ronettes), and the Doo Wop groups. When I listen to my oldies mix on iTunes, a lot of times I intentionally plug out my subwoofer speakers and listen to the tracks with the grainy built-in speakers on my iBook.

Anxiety

I have a turntable that I got for Christmas a couple of years ago, and the only stuff I like to play on it is old '60s and '70s albums (mayyybe some early '80s stuff), preferably records found at rummage sales/thrift shops that have seen a rough life. I don't wanna hear new stuff on album, but I love listening to stuff like ELO and Supertramp with all the pops and snaps in tact!

I'm 47. At my age, that's about all I can hope to pull. But there are a lot of advantages to dating women in their 40's. I mean, for instance, they tend to . . . wait . . . what exactly are you . . . oooh! Never mind. Never mind.

Totally! Joni Mitchell's Clouds and Blue are two albums that benefit hugely from scratches and pops to warm the sound.
