Bowie in Detroit

I'll give a full report later. I am way to braindead and sore to even type right now.

All I can say is that it was indeed another mind-blower. He did one of his infamous marathon shows with at least 33 songs that I can count. It just seemed like it would never end, and that's a good thing during a show.

I'll try to be back later in the day with some details.

One tidbit that was especially pleasing though: he did "Panic In Detroit" for the first time on this tour.

headbang

Jason, I'm sorry I missed you. I looked for a guy with a lightning bolt but he was nowhere to be found. sad

It's strange cuz it seems that the song selection and order is totally random, but it's not.

Everything hangs together very well and has a natural progression to it.

I love seeing legendary artists like this and Prince during the ONA shows rely strictly on their talent. No fancy staging, silly dancers, props, gimmicks, etc. Just a fabulous band and top-notch vocals. That's all you need really. The songs speak for themselves.

Let's hope he pulls another marathon out of his ass for Chicago. He didn't seem winded at all during the entire show. He was full throttle 100% of the time. Who knows how many times he could pull that off though. When the average concert sees about 18 to 20 songs, it was amazing to see someone give so much.

Is he gonna pay to play?

I hope he does Sound and Vision just for you.

Any idea what Bowie you'd like to get into next?

LOOK for some pics of me in my Aladdin Sane garb VERY VERY soon. Stephanie is getting them developed this week. I was a HIT--everyone wanted their picture taken with me...and if I had known that wearing Spandex pants (!) and eyeliner would've been so popular with the ladies, I woulda dressed like this in high-school.

TRON's description if the show was perfect. All I can say is that I was in PARADISE and the show was all I hoped for.
Hearing "Be My Wife" LIVE was practically an orgasm.

It was such a cool show, I spent $80 on merch...

This show was STUPENDOUS ~ absolutely FANTASTIC!!! All night Bowie kept teasing the audience saying ~ "this is going to be a very long show tonight" and "Detroit, you've no idea" and "We've only just started" batting his eyes and giving the audience a flashing mischievious smile becuase we really didn't know what an amazing show we were going to get. The audience was becoming frenzied He went into song after song ~ singing, playing and moving about the stage like a 27 year old. How does he sing so FULL OUT and perfect like that??? shocked I told TRON it was like he was throwing a huge party and having the best time just handing us present after present. He was thoroughly enjoying himself. I couldn't stop crying when he and Gail did Under Pressure ~ incredibly powerful and emotional ~ many of the songs were memorable for a lifetime. It was my first time seeing him and was beyond my wildest expectations. He is the most gorgeous man ~ far more than I had even imagined!

Note to TRON ~~~ you are just the best. Thank you for helping make this such a perfect night for Sally and me kisses hug kisses

You're so very welcome. I was relieved that you made it and more importantly, that you had such a great time. It was a delight to see you guys afterwards. I really thought I'd miss you. It was especially exciting to see Sally in such a thoughtful and great mood. I'm glad that everything came together for you. What a wonderful experience for all. Thanks to our gracious host. biggrin

And might I suggest the 30th anniversary edition of Ziggy Stardust as a good place to start.

I'm so jealous...this sounds like the best tour he's done since 1990 (the Sound + Vision tour) when I saw him last...
sigh
I've been getting chills just listening to Jason's stories and reading the setlist biggrin

Minneapolis was a great show, too. I must say I'm a bit jealous of that monster setlist (I would've killed to hear Breaking Glass.), but we did get Pablo Picasso which I felt was a highlight. Even the songs I didn't normally like too much sounded great live.

That happened to me too. Songs like "All The Young Dudes" and "China Girl" don't normally stand out to me. But both were highlights live for some reason. Funny that. Hey, do you have a full setlist? I can't seem to find one online yet.

I can't post a completely accurate setlist because my memory isn't great, but I'll give it a shot.

1. Rebel Rebel
2. New Killer Star
3. Reality
4. Fashion
5. Hang On To Yourself
6. Fame
7. Cactus
9. All The Young Dudes
10. China Girl (He started by having the audience sing the lyrics. He said we were terrible. He was right.)

So far the setlist is the same as Detroit give or take. I was using yours as a bit of a guide so they may be in a different order than they were. redface

11. Sunday
12. Hallo Spaceboy
13. Under Pressure
14. Life on Mars? (A little dissapointing.)
15. Some song I don't know, but the guy behind me excitedly shouted out "OMG TRACK 3 FROM EARTHLING! TRACK 3 FROM EAAARTTTHLING!!!" which was annoying at the time, but now it's helpful!
16. Ashes to Ashes
17. Panic In Detroit (Yay!)
18. Changes
19. I'm Afraid Of Americans (First I've heard this song, too, but it was awesome.)
20. Heroes (This is one of the songs I don't normally like too much, but damn if it wasn't a fine live performance.)

And then came the encore, which started out all like:

21. Pablo Picasso
22. Be My Wife
23. Fantastic Voyage (Another song that was new to me, but awesome.)
24. White Light/White Heat
25. Five Years (Yayyy!)
26. Suffragate City
27. Ziggy Stardust

A fan-fucking-tastic show all around.

Battle For Britain (The Letter)

Did he do it all drum 'n' bassish?

20. Heroes (This is one of the songs I don't normally like too much, but damn if it wasn't a fine live performance.)

How could anyone not completely love this song? omg

Sounds like a great show. Was this your first time seeing him live? What were your highlights?
