"Hues" - I gues that is why there are not any African Americans on the charts these days.

It is a good thing Tracey Chapman had that buckwheat/Amos and Andy thing going or she would have never had that hit.

Jones Right At 'Home' On Sophomore Disc

As tipped here earlier this week, Norah Jones will on Feb. 10 release "Feels Like Home," her sophomore Blue Note album. The 13-track set re-teams her with producer Arif Mardin, who was behind the boards for Jones' smash 2002 debut, "Come Away With Me." Seven cuts were written or co-written by the artist.

Beyond original songs by Jones and band members Lee Alexander (bass), Kevin Breit (guitar), Andrew Borger (drums), Adam Levy (guitar) and Daru Oda (backing vocals, keyboards), "Feels Like Home" finds her interpreting Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan's "The Long Way Home" and Townes Van Zandt's "Be Here To Love Me." Set closer "Don't Miss You at All" features Jones' lyrics sung over the Duke Ellington instrumental "Melancholia."

Among the guest artists on "Feels Like Home" are Dolly Parton, Levon Helm and Garth Hudson of the Band, drummer Brian Blade (Emmylou Harris, Dave Matthews), guitarist Tony Scherr, accordionist Rob Burger and guitarist Jesse Harris.

"Come Away With Me" has sold 7.8 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan and won five Grammys last year. Jones is up again this year in the best country collaboration with vocals category for "Wurlitzer Prize (I Don't Want To Get Over You)" with duet partner Willie Nelson.

Jones kicks off a European tour April 15 in Dublin and will perform on the continent through late June. A North American tour is likely to begin in July.

Here is the "Feels Like Home" track list:

"Sunrise"
"What Am I to You?"
"Those Sweet Words"
"Carnival Town"
"In the Morning"
"Be Here To Love Me"
"Creepin' In"
"Toes"
"Humble Me"
"Above Ground"
"The Long Way Home"
"The Prettiest Thing"
"Don't Miss You at All"

That setlist scores pretty high on the bland-o-meter IMHO. Kind of like Dido. Also, it looks like she's done the usual sophomore album "celebrity guest star" thing, judging by the collaborators.

She seems to bore about half the people I know, and thrill the other half. Good for them.

Norah Jones is still overhyped. Producer Craig Street made her debut what it was. She pales in comparsion to Alana Davis -- who should receive the accolades and acclaim that Jones' is running to the bank with. Just check out Alana's first two records (paying attention to the songwriting and the instrumentation) and you'll see that Norah is lackluster in comparison.

I loved Alana's first album. I think they have similar voices, texture-wise and maybe similar phrasing. But, I think that's where their similarity ends. The production on Alana's songs was wonderful and robust -- but in a different way. They have different styles.

Wasn't Alana featured on a song for Sony, not too long ago? It was wonderful...

Yep. "Carry On" was the name of the track. Nice song.
