Pull-An-Artist-Out-Ya-Hat Thread: Bahamadia

Pop Quotable:"...if the angry realize that his position is a gift, he'll truly honor what his mission is..." ~Bahamadia "Beautiful Things" (2000)

Representing femcees on the ill-a-delph side long before Eve, Bahamadia deserves her props. This MC can FLOW much harder than 80% of the females and males in the game (and she's not on some g-strings 'n' prada B.S. like some carnally obsessed females MCs are). I love the fact that she isn't obsessed with materialism and sex. She just rhymes, that's what's so beautiful about her delivery.

I remember when she first came on the scene with 1997's slighty-above-the-radar LP "Kollage." The underground and the backpack set gave that album much love. "UKNOWHOWWEDU" was the banger on that one, real radio shows used to jam that in '97. Also, I loved "True Honey Buns (Dat Freak S**t)." She associated with the Roots and the Okayplayer movement way before Neo-Soul and Afro-Bohemians got a hold of 'em.

Her "BB Queen" EP (2000) is vastly underrated. Every track on that EP was a keeper. You can chill out and just vibe to that record, put it on your CD player/record player or whatever and just cool out. The Philly sound is emblazoned all over the record. Plus, it featured guest stars like Bilal and Slum Village. Lots of underground favorites. "Beautiful Things" is one of her strongest recordings along with "Commonwealth (Cheap Chicks)," I love the lines in that record. She denounces the trappings of materialism -- "...when discounts be comin' thru / make moves, boo / I ain't mad at you..." I remember they actually DEBUTED her video on the black TRL (106 & Park) and some female in the audience had the nerve to say that Bahamadia "looked like a man in the video." I'm like, damn, these kids are so flippant.

I'd love to hear something new from her.
