dunno but i liked her A LOT!

I Believe In Love is a Beau-ti-ful song.

"Nietzche's Eyes" from the previous release is also beautiful.

I think she got fed up with the Warners OR just the corporate system as a whole. In the last few interviews I read on her, she was making it quite clear how much of a struggle it was for WB to let her produce her own material.

I Believe In Love and that entire album was all her.

Go Ms. Cole! Anyone with that much music in them won't be away for too long.

Her last album Amen was released in 1999. Since then I don't know what's going on with her, but it's typical in the current musical climate really.

Although her breakthrough album This Fire wasn't her debut, it was when most people first noticed her. And although the Grammy voters nominated and voted her Best New Artist in 1998 for her second album, she's been given the proverbial kiss of death with that honor. A lot of recording artists who win it seem to disappear soon afterwards.

But having said all that, it could just be music industry business bs that has stopped her in her tracks. Today's industry does not nuture talent like it once did. It mostly favors entertainers who are fast food style over substance.

"Where Have All The Cowboys Gone" was the best single of 1997, if you ask me. And the way she whispered some of the verses sounded Wendy & Lisa-ish.

Oh man.. you just sent a chill down my spine. If I had a major label or more importantly major label funds, I would arrange that these three meet.

She didn't tour with Peter Gabriel during his last tour. His daughter took her place.

When I saw Paula Cole in concert, I was FLOORED. That woman can BLOW. Oh my God, and she's so talented, writing and producing all her stuff... She played piano on Trowing Stones. Doug Winbush was on base and Jay Bellerose on drums. They did a mind-blowin version of Whole Lotta Love. I mean she fucken BLEW. Holy shit. I was litterally speechless after the show. I couldn't even say I was speechless. For real. I seriously considered whether or not I should attempt to record my own album after that show. I was like, what's the point of creating anything new? That's it!

Last I heard she was recording an album with long time Sting producer Hugh Padgham. That was April of 2002 though.

Hi Vina wave

I've never seen Paula live. Thanks for sharing that. It's exciting to hear that she may be working with Hugh Padgham. The warmth of his productions will surely complimet her style. Off to check out her site now.. typing

Remember all those VH1/Lilith Fair estro-folk chicks from the mid-90s:

Paula Cole ("Where Have All The Cowboys Gone")
Shawn Colvin ("Sunny Came Home")
Meredith Brooks ("I'm A Bish")
Joan Osbourne ("One Of Us)
Fiona Apple ("Criminal")
Sarah McLachlan ("I Will Remember You")
Jewel ("You Were Meant For Me," pre-Intuition pop madness)
etc.

I would include Sheryl Crow, but her career was more prominent than the aforementioned.

Some of them made some good stuff. Joan was cool IMO.

I also saw Paula Cole live a couple of times and she does really blow her audience away! She also did a kick ass cover of Dolly's 'JOLENE' and ended it by beat-boxing. That really got the crowd going. I think she actually did that on the Grammy's the year she one Best New Aritst. If you dont own any of her albums...I would say start with THIS FIRE then by the other 2. She made fantastic music and her voice is amazing. I really hope we hear from her soon. Alot of those females were very talented. The music landscape is in need for a turning point. Maybe with Sarah's new album doing so well..it may show these blood-sucking labels that female music with substance, heart, and soul is in dire need of attention.

I did read that the Indigo Girls and Fionna Apple will have new albums out in February. The Indigo's record will feature the great Joan Osborne!!!

Unfortunately, very often the music industry says "We already got this female, why do we need another one?"

I've heard a live cover of her version of "Jolene"...the beat box I've heard her do was at the end of "Where Have All The Cowboys Gone?" on the Grammys. She probably just switches up whenever she feels the need. Her "Jolene" interpretation is brilliant.

Aint that somethin! That's some bullshit there. Yet there are like 10 other Blink 182's (Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Yellowcard...) and Matchbox 20's (Nickelback, The Calling, Train...) flooding the airwaves...

At least the mid-late 90's female artists each had their own unique image and personality that showed in their work...

Hey, her armpits were charming. Leave her alone!!! smile

In addition to her aforementioned struggles with Warner Bros., she also started a family with an artist whose name escapes me. That, the devolution of the music industry and 9/11 led to a period of circumspection (according to her web site) that I hope doesn't prevent her from finding a way to release another masterpiece. She's really cool.

My jams by her:

"Pearl"
"Mississippi"
"I Feel Love"
"I Don't Want to Wait"
"I Believe in Love"
"Me"

Come on back, Paula!!! wave
