I just bought TTD's Wildcard at my used cd store for $9.99.
Needles to say I am thrilled about this, but I don't know much about this cd. Can anyone give me some details on it. Is it as good as his others?

I personally think it is a great album ...

(i wore it out in my cd player for a couple of months ...)

most of the songs are top rate ... and if you think they are ... "ah-so so ..." at first ... they grow on ya ...

but - also - in my opinion ... the album as a whole isnt the great "gel" -as was his earlier albums "vibrator" or "symphony or damn " ...

I do think that all three albums mentioned - are better than anything that Prince has done in a while ...

just my opinion ...

Good price! That CD actually has had a couple of different incarnations. Originally, it was titled "Terence Trent D'Arby's Solar Return". This configuration of the disc never saw the light of day. The first version of Wilcard was an internet only release, downloadable off of his website. Later, the album was released, but in a different cnfiguration, in Europe only. Recently, TTD has released another version, called the Joker Edition, in both Europe and the US (it has an extremly limited release, however).

TTD/Sananda's website has a breakdown of the different versions, if you're curious. I've only heard the internet version, so I can't speak for the other configurations, but I do think there are some really good tunes on it.

I have the Joker's Edition too. Great CD...my one and only complaint (and its a very small one) is that its a bit too long. I usually don't have the time to listen to the whole thing in one sitting. I personally think Symphony or Damn is his best, but Wildcard is very good and definitely worth a listen or 2.

It's a superb album (no matter which version, they are all great), besides "Vibrator" it's my favourite album by him (and I really love all his albums ). It however took me some time to really get into it. When I first listened to it I somehow had the same feeling I had with Prince's records in the 80s that I had to listen to it again as I knew it would grow on me and that was exactly what happened. I know it since the first version that was available for free download in April 2001 and I still listen to it a lot . BTW, did you know that Wendy Melvoin plays bass on "Sweetness".

You NEED to hear Paradise Postponed, from the original download release. It's beautiful. I think my favourite line-up of songs was the initial download release, probably because I heard it first that way and the 'new' songs sound out of place to me.

No subsequent Wildcard release had Paradise Postponed on there and I'm still waiting for Sananda to release it officially on CD in non-mp3 form.

I think someone new to TTD would want to listen to his debut as well as Symphony Or Damn & Vibrator for more or less instant gratification. They all have some brilliant tunes. Neither Fish Nor Flesh lots of people find unpalatable, but for me the album was one of his most daring, enjoyable albums that I probably play the most. The first 3 tracks on that album (and in that order), to me, I'll never get tired of.

If you like what you hear on Wildcard, I think you will be more than thrilled with what you find on his earlier work.

zzz...another TTD-thread, stop it already!

It's good. The quality slips here and there for me. A twelve track album would've been punchier but there are some damn fine songs on there. O Divina, Designated Fool, My Dark Places, What Shall I Do? and Sayin' About You are as good as any of his best work in my opinion.
