What's Your Favorite Janet Jackson Album?

Hi, guys. I'm new to this forum, and my favorite artist is Janet Jackson. I was wondering what your favorite album of her's is. Mine is The Velvet Rope. It's a masterpiece, in my opinion, and it has helped me through the hardest times in my life.

This is a toughie...I like almost all of her albums. My current favorite would have to be a tie between 'All For You' and 'Design of a Decade'. I liked AFY cuz it was so upbeat, and she sounded like she was really haoppy for the first time in a LONG time and it really showed thru the music. I picked 'Design' as my second choice, cuz it covers a lot of her good stuff thru her A&M years (Altho I would stuck 'Dreamstreet' on there too wink)

"Janet" and "Control", in no order. "Janet"'s nicer to look at.

Wow! We have a fan of her first album? That's really cool... I didn't expect a lot of positive Janet posts, for some reason. Thanks for sharing me your favorites, guys.

I liked Velvet Rope very very very much because it was a theme album and reflected so much hurt, confusion & attitude...but on a listen2able scale, i'd say Rhythm Nation 1814. Nothing beats the back 2 back 2 back funk combined with the theme of the album, combined with "Lonely" "Come Back 2 Me" and "Someday Is 2nite" i one album...got damn!

Album plays and love for vinyl records.

"Janet" will always be my favourite, but "Velvet Rope" is a close second.

Janet's great, although her last album was SHIT and I've never even heard it. One look at the cover is all I need to know that she's lost her edge.

Yeah, her last album was her worst. Nothing but derivative, glossy, pop/soul tripe. Her and the Jam/Lewis team can do better than that.

Yes, as much as I love Janet, I can agree that All For You is my least favorite of her's, next to Dream Street.

may fav is THE VELVET ROPE, followed by RHYTHM NATION 1814. but i like the first one better. most of the stuff on RHYTHMN NATION sounds very outdatetd and 80ish. VELVET ROPE hasn't aged for me at all, a timeless record with "Got 'Til It's Gone" maybe being her best track of all. Nice artwork also. smile
JANET. only has a few songs that i like, far too many interludes and so-so songs (allthough "That's The Way Love Goes" and "If" are classic) in my opinion wink

janet and velvet rope are tied at first, afy was kinda boring in comparison. velvet rope had such a cool sound and look and hype. the tour was amazing as well. afy just seemed to lack that tho

I would say 'Control' but 'Velvet Rope' is very good 2. I like the remix of 'I Get So Lonely' with Blackstreet - that is very cool.

I have only heard a few songs off her real first 2 albums (Janet Jackson & Dream Street).

Starting at Control, my favorites are in order of release (Control, Rhythm Nation 1814, janet., Velvet Rope, All For You).

I think her best album, though, is Velvet Rope. That album has a lot of important messages that I needed at a certain time in my life, but I don't really throw that record on very often now, y`kno?

The Velvet Rope

Her most personal album to date. This cd helped me through tough times. I felt like she was talking to me when I first heard this cd. "Free Xone" is my favorite cut on the disc.

I think I'd have to say "The Velvet Rope" just becuase the writing is so personal and touching and the music is funky but "All For You" has its moments as well. Her albums are always very good (although I know very little about the first two).

Rhythm Nation 1814. Definitely in my all-time top 10. I hope her next one is a drastic improvement on the limp All For You, though.

Favorites:

Conceptually: The Velvet Rope

Musically: RN1814

Overall: RN1814, although I love TVR 'til death. RN1814 goes farther back for me. Lots of memories with that one.
