Actually I did dig him earlier in the year, but I have got total JT overkill now!

Between hearing Justified over and over at the record store I worked at, the local "urban" station still playing "Rock Your Body" every hour, and now this fucking McDonalds jingle.. I need a break from this guy!

Overexposed! Market saturation!

You asked for it: my thoughts...

Justin Timberlake is a Diet Usher (and I'm stretching because I dislike Usher's music and media personality). Justin's very cocky, Michael obsessed (MJ/Janet-obsessed, like many other rising twenty-something pop stars). I felt a few of his singles like "Cry Me A River" and "Rock Your Body," but they both played out once radio beat them to a pulp. Wouldn't be feeling his material if 'tweren't for the Timbo, Neptunes production. Haven't bought any of his solo records and don't plan on it.

Same here. Let him produce his own shit...yeah whateva. If anyone of them from the Backstreet Boys released the same from Neptunes & Timbaland productions...same songs and everything..same thing wouldve happened.

people r just enjoying his fad goin on right now...Jordan Knight had his time, but he never went solo back then that is...even more vocally talented than Justin in my opinion.

I just watched him on the rerun of SNL where he's host and musical guest...he has good technical chops, but I can't help but think of him as that guy at work who makes poo poo jokes and likes to show off at karaoke night. You can tell he's a ham and he loves to be in the spotlight and entertain, but I see no art or craft in what he does - I think he'd be a great musical theater performer, but then you can say that about most of the teenybopper veterans out there right now...

It's funny how people are amazed to see Justin (or any pop act for that matter) pick up a guitar and play a few notes. A few decades ago, it was expected a musician could at least play an instrument or two. People have really lowered their standards these days...

I was just thinking about his SNL performances. I've seen them twice now, and I think that he's got the right idea, and is this close to pulling it off, he just needs a band that isn't interested in outplaying each other or showing him up onstage.

He sucks! Justin is just a second-rate Michael Jackson clone, working with all the hot R&B/hip hop producers, creating the same disposable, forgettable pop crap that everybody else is doing. He is the hot "teen idol" of the moment, but these types of guys never last. He's an okay vocalist and the song "Rock Your Body" is alot of fun,but there's not much substance to him or anything he does. We've all seen and heard it all before.I'm tired of lightweight "artists" who are only popular because of how they look.

He needs to be given the opportunity to express himself creatively rather than just being told to excel at what he's told to do. Like I said, he has the technical chops to be a decent entertainer - he just looks disingenuous as hell going through the motions of singing a song.

I love the Justified album, and he's a great performer, but I feel like he kinda held back on a lot of the songs on the album. I think he has great, catchy songs, but some of them kinda seem stifled, like he didn't really put a lot of himself into it. All in all though, for a debut solo album, I think it's promising that he could have a long career as an entertainer.

so because he's white he has to stick to pop and easy listening?

that's the type of music he likes to do, he just happens to be white. that's like saying teena marie or even wendy and lisa "faked the funk"

He's the most talented singer to come out of the most talented boy band. He's definitely got a soulful voice an soul/pop appeal. "Rock You Body" is (believe it or not) one of the few Neptunes productions that I liked.

I could be wrong, but isn't 'Rock Your Body' one of the few songs on the album that isn't a Neptunes-production?

not really. i like him, but i wouldn't say i'm a fan. i just don't understand all the piling on that happens here when it comes to Justin. he's got a decent voice, puts on a decent performance, and has decent songs. what's with the hate?

i think people get so used to saying "everything sucks today" when it comes to music that they let people who're actually talented pass by. now, whether he's actually talented, that's subjective, but... ah fuck it. i don't care... shrug

Before you get pissed at me, remember that you asked!!!

I cannot stand him! If I want to hear a lame, white Michael Jackson, I'll throw in Invincible. His stuff is all derivitive, down to his dance moves. IMHO, he hasn't got anything real to offer. He's just another crappy pop singer. Can't wait until his 15 minutes is up (which will be right around the time all the little girls grow up, and the gay guys get bored with him).

Wow, I love it when people are honest and I also love it when people see through all the hype. Thanks Davideye! Justin is cute with an ok voice and a few good MJ moves and that's all. He won't last! Of course the young teenyboppers think he's great, but most of these same people think Britney is the greatest, but they don't know real musicians and real talent. They also don't know about integrity either.

People hate on Justin, but he actually has what it takes...

Although he fits within the questionable tradition of Blue-Eyed Soul, his vocal and dancing abilities are actually decent. He's got a marketable look and image (though I've never found him personally attractive). And his personality seems down-to-earth, genuine and humble yet electric enough to strike that balance between captivating and ego-run-amuck. In short, he may be a guilty pleasure, but he's likeable.

One shortcoming he'll have to contend with is his inclination to VERY noticeably imitate his influences (especially Michael Jackson). But he's a young solo artist yet, and hopefully he'll develop his own unique stage personality.

...J.C. Chasez's definitely cuter (although he needs a shower, a haircut and a visit by the Queer Eyes these days), but his personality isn't half as likeable as Timberlake's and I think Justin is a slightly better singer/performer.
