If it isn't rap music, it'll be something else. Perhaps rap music does perpetuate some stereotypes but I think that if rap music were to vanish, those stereotypes would still be around. The eye of a racist sees what it wants to see whether there is truth in it or not. One way of looking at rap music is to see it as a commentary on what's wrong with American society. I think that's how 2pac used his talent (although not exclusively) and I wish that more mainstream rappers would do the same. | |
