I prefer 2pac, eminem and a lot of older rap acts.. that (besides 2pac) didnt actually gear towards "Thug life".. back when rap had some class.. now its just fad that hopefully will play out soon.

here is a related question.

does rap music perpetuate racism?

meaning, if there are many people out there who share the same views about rap music as whomever started this thread, will that lead to these people having racist feelings towards blacks in general?

it does exist and i believe it exists in abundance especially with older whites for the sole reason of the stereotypical portrayal of blacks in both music and television/film. racism will continue to exist as long as these stereotypes perpetuate in the arts.

and yes, i understand that it is not the black artist's responsibility how his art is portrayed by middle aged whites. but this does pose a probable question.

I've wondered about this myself, but I think that if someone is truly a racist, he or she is going to look at anything related to black people (or whatever race) and see it as being bad or ignorant. If it isn't rap music, it'll be something else. Perhaps rap music does perpetuate some stereotypes but I think that if rap music were to vanish, those stereotypes would still be around. The eye of a racist sees what it wants to see whether there is truth in it or not.

One way of looking at rap music is to see it as a commentary on what's wrong with American society. I think that's how 2pac used his talent (although not exclusively) and I wish that more mainstream rappers would do the same.

Aaron doesnt fight. He just talks shit. He leaves the fighting to others with more balls and supports the fighters in front of his TV set with popcorn and beer.
