Sly Stone - "thankyoufalettinme..." Why are there two distinctly different versions of this song? Stereo and mono - and the stereo version has a different version of him singing. I've got the mono version from the Anthology, and I have no idea where I got the stereo version. CERTAINLY not Kazaa, but that's besides the point.
Does anybody know why he put out this pitiful mono version? The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Because stereo was a brand new concept at the time, and because most record companies at that time were doing that. Putting out both mono and stereo versions of singles and albums satisfied consumers with traditional monaural hifi systems and (at the time) newer stereo units. Just look at the Beatles catalog; they released both stereo and mono mixes for just about every piece of music they ever recorded.

What version is on The Essential Sly anthology? When that came out, I threw out my old collections.

Yeah, I want to know too. I don't have the anthology anymore, but I have the "Essential" and the "Greatest Hits".
