I meant, how many songs did you DOWNLOAD for free instead of BUYING?

Just curious. It might be that you actually bought all that stuff... :O

Of Tori's? Or just in general. Most official things by the artists I love, I've bought the real copies. And in many cases even the bootlegs. But out of print remixes and b-sides I've often downloaded.

I think in 6 months time, a 2nd volume of Librarian would be a welcome addition. She's had so many singles and so many fan favorites that a one disc 'Best Of' doesn't nearly cover it. Here's what I would include if there was a 20 track companion piece.

1. Pretty Good Year
2. Caught A Light Sneeze
3. Sugar (re-recorded)
4. Cruel - Shady Feline mix
5. Concertina - single mix
6. China
7. Taxi Ride - single mix
8. Past The Mission
9. Talula - Tornado mix
10. Strange Little Girl
11. Glory Of The 80's
12. Raspberry Swirl - Lip Gloss version
13. In The Springtime Of His Voodoo - Hasbrouck Heights edit
14. Upside Down (re-recorded)
15. Blue Skies - single edit
16. Hey Jupiter - Dakota version
17. A Sorta Fairytale - single mix
18. 1000 Oceans
19. Putting The Damage On - Twilight mix
20. Indian Summer (new song)

Pretty good companion disc! Out of curiosity, do you have "Indian Summer", and if so, where did you get it?

ASTOUNDING!!!
I don't see how anyone could bitch about anyhting on here TRON ~ although I do agree the dance mix of Professional Widow is out of place here. It's great but doesn't have the dramatic vibe given by the rest of the CD. I tore it open and listened to it in my car right at the Best Buy parking lot! It sounded like she was right inside the car with me ~ the vocals brought forward are stunning. I am a real snob about country music and was thinking I wouldn't like Playboy Mommy but I love it ~ just a perfect version of this song. And ~ I haven't even seen the DVD yet!!! I'll be listenin to Tori all the way to Southfield and back this weekend!

Thanks. biggrin

I only have the live version of the song. But I know there is a studio one. This is just a hypothetical list.

You stayed at Best Buy for 80 minutes!?

That's great that you like it. I think it's a really nice mixture. I'm glad I waited to finish my project, cuz this has me rethinking the whole thing. I'm not quite sure how I'll do it now.

I think the album's pretty hot. I'm glad she didn't overdue the alterations like Prince does. The only thing I don't like as much is how her voice and some of the music sounds a bit flat in parts. It's just a production thing, but they could have juiced up the sound a bit.

i agree. Tori needs to work with some outside producers, in my opinion. Scarlet's Walk in particular was a muddled mess. Brilliant album, poor production.

I really didn't have any problems with Scarlet's Walk, it grew on me after a while. But I do miss the big sound from previous albums.

I agree in a couple cases. Most versions are nice alterations. But a few of the newer songs like Spark and Bliss seem a bit dry to me. The originals are so full and luscious though that I doubt anything she did to them would sound as good.

Yeah, Spark was a bit dry. And it's too bad cuz that's the song that got me to buy my first Tori album and start the collection.

it pops up from time to time in her sets, but not as often as I would like.

I actually like the alterations on Spark... sounds a bit less frantic somehow, less busy... of course I love the original as well. That's the nice thing about the alterations. It's a bit like a new coat of paint, or maybe some new makeup. But the originals are all still there, too. Best of both worlds smile

i'm having a bit of trouble warming up to Angels... sounds very average and blah to me...

there could have been endless variations of the track listing but i really think she should have fit as least ONE of the 3 main singles from Pele - Talula, CALS and Jupiter. All 3 of them being omitted to me is a major flaw of this collection.

I didn't notice. Is it that she never plays it or just rarely plays is?

I agree. Caught A Light Sneeze and Hey Jupiter are 2 of her greatest songs from her best album. I don't know why it was so overlooked when 6 songs were included from Little Earthquakes. That's why I'm hoping there's a part 2 at some point. Did you see my proposed tracklist for a Librarian Vol. 2?

yeah, it's a good list. i don't see it happening, unfortunately. and if it ever would, it would be on Atlantic so no Scarlet's Walk stuff. I would make a couple changes, though. i think 18 tracks, since there aren't any short ones. Rattlesnakes should be included as a key track from SLG, which probably would have been the 2nd single. Honey I think would have to be included. Here's what I came up with:

Pretty Good Year
Caught a Lite Sneeze
Concertina
Rattlesnakes
Upside Down
Past The Mission
Talula (Tornado)
Cruel
China
Purple People
Putting the Damage On
Honey
Strange Little Girl
Siren
Glory of the 80's
Raspberry Swirl
1000 Oceans
Hey Jupiter (Dakota - edit)

If I could have one wish... it would be for Tori to record studio versions of 2 covers that she has done live... DANIEL by Elton John, which she has done numerous times...i saw it in Washington DC on the 2001 tour and I was in tears... and PHILADELPHIA by Neil Young... unbelievable. Performed in Philly in 2001, it would be wonderful in the studio

I like your list too. I'll have to write that down.

Studio versions of "Purple Rain" and "Lovesong" would be nice too. wink
