Not bad. I think IstenSzek is thinking like I'm thinking: I wish she'd go in a more Choirgirl direction! I miss that! She seems so tame and mild now. I do enjoy the new stuff, but I LOVE the Choirgirl era. An artist can't force their evolution though. She's been through the ringer to give us great art. Little Earthquakes is as confessional as it gets. Boys For Pele couldn't be any deeper. Choirgirl is gutwrenching and pained. I don't think she could force that kind of crisis again. Venus was tripped as fuck. I think she deserves a break. The new mellow Tori has only been for one album, so who knows what she'll do next. I hear all the time people complaining about how she's lost her edge and she's grown up, etc. But that's a natural progression in life. She's 40 now, married and had a kid. She's said herself that she's not an angry victim anymore. I'm happy for her. And if that means writing soothing, peace-filled music, more power to her. I don't mean so much the pain and darkness of Choirgirl, mainly the instrumentation. I know people wanted her to be the piano girl forever, but for me, it seems a natural progression to go from piano to synths. I miss guitar in her music too. I do love Taxi Ride, that sounds very happy to me and it almost makes me cry each time I hear it. She can still call on that angry victim though, back in August she totally floored me when she performed Professional Widow.

I'm interested to hear what you think of Librarian when you get it. Will you try to track it down at midnight tonight? The sound of Choirgirl is unbeatable. It's amazing that that's her first band record, cuz it sounds like she's had a band all along. I like to think of it like this. She had to lose her band (Y Kan't Tori Read) to earn them back.

Lol @ earning the band back. Have you heard the YKTR record? She sounds like Pat Benetar to me. I downloaded some pre-YKTR demos and they were sooo 80s... I dig the 80s but this was CHEEZY 80s. Made me feel good, like there's hope to progress as an artist. I got the tracks over here: http://www.scarletswalk.c...eadid=1243 but it looks like they took them down. I can upload them to a yahoo briefcase I use for trading mp3s if you like. [This message was edited Mon Nov 17 13:48:54 PST 2003 by VinaBlue]

I got this collection early as well and I fell in love with the cover and packaging! I was a little bit dissapointed that the DVD did not contain more content but that is my ONLY complaint...and a minor one at that. I love the collection and I love the version of 'Putting The Damage On' on the DVD...that song kills me!
I'll be giving this a better listen during my upcoming holiday roadtrip home! Every minute of last night is on my face today....

Is that version of Putting The Damage On (twilight) the one I heard? It completely breaks my heart it is so beautiful. This sounds excellent but knowing you there will be several "tweaks" before you are satified with the final version. (just don't touch China ~ it's one of my favourite songs by her)

Yeah. It's the one from the RAINN benefit album. And as far as I know, there are no alternate versions of China, so the album version stays. I'll probably have to make the disc a few times to get it right.
