All I listened to this summer was eels and Grandaddy (if you like eels, you'd like them too) - I bought all the eels' albums this summer and I can tell you they're all brilliant - not a weak record in the bunch.
"Electro Shock Blues" is especially amazing, and if you like that, you should find the soundtrack to the film "Levity", which was composed by the lead singer of eels and has a lot of musical themes in common with "Electro Shock Blues". If you delve deeper into their music, you're in for a treat. The lyrics alone are genius, and the music is catchy as can be.

it's 'eels', not 'The Eels'. Mr. E. is one of the best songwriters of his generation, all his stuff is great. I would not want to compare him to Beck, I see many differences. Funny you dig Souljacker that much, although I like the album I find it their weakest so far.

Superficially, I can hear a resemblence, but listen to a few more eels albums and get back to me - I bet you'll have a whole new take. I hear a bit of Beck, only with a little more anger; I hear a little bit of Flaming Lips, without the overt psychadelia; believe it or not, what I hear most of all is the style of classic musical theater composers. I hear kind of a disgruntled Cole Porter in a lot of his lyrics and melodies.

I was down in Madison and they just so happened to be playing a very very small venue, called Luthers Blues a few weeks ago. The show was great! One of my favorite artist of all time. I got my copy of Electro Shock Blues Live Show signed as well as a pick E was playing with! Now its the only pick I play with. I also saw them at the Metro in Chicago during the SoulJacker era. Both shows rock!
