Another Gang of Four thread

I fucking love this band!!! I'm listening to their album Hard right now. That one really didn't display their mix of politics and punk/funk like their earlier stuff. No, Hard is all about the funky, drum machine-driven grooves to make you get down to. Some might have said they sold out with that record, but they were always a dance band to begin with. The punk and politics were just the icing on the cake.

Anyways, Gang of Four is the shiznit. Now their influence can be shown in these neo-postpunk bands like Erase Errata, The Rapture, and Stellarstar*. But there really is no comparison if you really look at it. Gang of Four had that "unh" that these new cats don't have.

Anyways, feel free to comment on my latest thread.

Yeah, The Au Pairs are cool too. But this is about the Gang of Four. Entertainment! comes in at #5 in my all-time favorite albums list.

Andy Gill produced my friends bands (Killing Joke) new album.
www.killingjoke.com

"Gang of Four knew how to swing. I stole a lot from them."
- Michael Stipe (R.E.M.)

"Gang of Four is the first rock band I could truly relate to... These Limies rocked my world."
- Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers)

"The early Gang of Four lineup made some of the greatest and most influential music of the last fifteen years."
- Page Hamilton (Helmet)

"(They) took no prisoners. It was art meets the devil via James Brown"
- Michael Hutchence (INXS)

"Hard, angular, bold... Andy Gill's chin is the very black hole of '90's music we should have all disappeared into... if we had sense... a dimple atop the body politic, a pimple on the arse of pop. A Gang of Four metal guru, a corporation of common sense, a smart bomb of text that had me 'at home feeling like a typist.'"

Cool, banana. You know Killing Joke members? I like that song they did about living in the 80's.
