WOMEN OF FUNK

the only problem i have with funk music is, it seems like it was mostly male dominate, so I guess my question is, where there any women of funk, back in the days ?

I prefer Chaka with Rufus to the solo version, but for my money you couldn't fuck with Teena.

In my best RuPaul voice "Uh-uh honey, nobody can WAIL like my bitch and you could take that to the bank, mista" lol

But 4 real tho, check what Miles Davis said about her in his book.

Teena is mo' RnB oriented(not that its bad) but I checked her other stuff, she's not much of a chameleon,,,she can't pull a ROCKER attitude and switch on to JAZZ after the 2nd number and then pull on of Joni Mitchell's music.

Besides, hear Chaka's "Whatcha Gonna Do 4 Me" album, thats the FUNKISET solo effort from her. She may can't be funky as she was with Rufus but she's def still have that fire beneath her chest.

Same goes with Tina Turner!

Maybe so, but don't be talking about stinches, seriously...If I bend down to tie my shoe laces within 4 feet of you, it smells like rotten mackerel. If I ever need a strong smell of mackerel on my fishing hooks, would you rub them on your crotch for me? Thanks.

Just kidding! Just kidding! But to call Mariah Carey a smell is...kinda mean. sad

That's what I'm talking about, FUNK! While most of the forementioned female singers are good if not great singers, but are they FUNKY singers?
I would not consider Chaka a funky singer, now the original band "Rufus" was a sur-nuff funky band, Chaka's voice is soulful but not necessarily 'funky'. Listen to "Game is my middle name" by Betty Davis and then you will hear funky vocals. By the way the Pointer Sisters are singing background on that cut[wait let me check again].

Now Tina Marie, oh yes, "Square Biz" funky, yes!

Speaking of Teena Marie, I heard "Behind The Groove" last
night for the first time in AGES, and I do mean AGES...
you can forget how good certain old songs sound when you're
not used to hearing them over the years.

Are you on 'lock down'? Otherwise where is your copy that prevented you from putting it on? If you don't have it, then you need to sit back and let grown ups talk. Sorry I just couldn't resist that youngster.

I don't own a copy.

How you can automatically deduce that someone is a "youngster" who doesn't have a habit of listening to that song is utterly foolish. Foist your knee jerk condescension elsewhere.
