BET's new show "Grown Folks Music"

There's a new show on BET called "Grown Folks Music" I don't know how long this'll last, but for all those wanting an old school fix weekdays from 11:30-12 midnight EST should check this show out.

Tonight they played:
Whitney Houston "You Give Good Love"
Terence Trent D'Arby "Wishing Well"
Mariah Carey "Vision Of Love"
Cameo "Candy"
Al B. Sure! "Rescue Me"

I just got thru watching that. It took me back to the days when soul music was worth listening to. It's not as extensive as VH1 Classic, but good nevertheless. Hopefully we can catch a future episode featuring a classic video by, uh, you know who...

i can't believe they come up with an idea this good, and they wait and put it on late as hell... when most "grown folks" are sleeping cause they have to get up for work the next morning...

and then it only lasts a half an hour..? long enough for 5 or 6 videos...

come on, BET... hook us up... put it on in the morning, so we can we watch it, while we get ready for work... extend the time to about an hour...

It never lasts. Remember Video Soul Gold? Or that show they had on Wednesdays at 8 pm that was an hour of old school joints? I can't stay up that late anyway.

Al looked a damn mess in that tight-ass stonewashed jean outfit. It was pretty much like Bobby Brown's "My Perogative" video with the live set and all with Al dry humping the audience. nuts I remember his In Effect Mode album used to be the shit, though! headbang

I agree with the general consensus of this thread, BET needs to do more shows like this and (most of all) STICK WITH THEM. BET comes up with a lot of good shows that just disappear ("Out The Box," anyone?) We get the shaft when it comes to the good music shows, but we're blessed with late night mainstays like "Uncut" LOL! I remember they had a Hard Rock Live-type show called Planet Groove Live, or something like that, where they would show artists ranging from Toni Tony Tone to Mya to Corey Glover performing live. That was a good show. Also, I used to love this show they had called "ALL," it featured live performances by Shanice (she performed the HELL out of "Fly Like An Angel" hitting glass-shattering vocals) and Kelis (that's how I got turned on to Kelis way back in 1999, when nobody knew who she was or who the neptunes were).

I just sent an email to BET commending them for the show. (Yes, I'm bored at work -- it shows.) smile

You can send your comments to them at Tvviewerscomments@bet.com that's the only way they'll know that people are actually watching.

I was thinking the same thing when I watched it last night, okaypimpn! Overall, it was refreshing to be abel to sit and watch videos that had a bit of soul to them. No flash, no bling, no countless-video-girls-wearing-nothing dancers to take your mind off that fact that there's supposed to be some kind of musicianship in there (not that I mind seeing those kinds of things every once in awhile nod) either.

Hey, maybe they'll show some videos of Prince's royal subjects as well as Prince videos. I would love to see that in the future.

I have been disappointed in the quality of BET for some time. I miss the old Video Vibrations show.

I used to watch 106 & Park after work, and AJ & Free play the "Old School Joint of the Day", and I saw 1984-era videos like "When Doves Cry", "Jungle Love" and "Glamourous Life".

Hey I remember that show! I think she did "Get Along With You"? I remember in `97 seeing Timbaland, Magoo, and Missy perform "Up Jumps The Boogie" on ALL.

I love your threads, JANFAN4L.

well, they have the right idea, and that whole station is slowly gaining respectability again, but all in all that show could use some touching up.
Not only is is only once a week and on at 11:30 on a TUESDAY night, but I've also noticed how they cut the videos short.
Like Mariah's Carey's "vision of love", the video's only three minutes long and they cut it off by like 30 seconds, what the hell? I think the only video I've seen in it's entierty is the time's "cool".

I saw it tonight hoping to see some Prince or anyone in his kingdom. The Jets would probably come close. Damn.

Anyways, you could also catch a rerun of this Saturday mornings at 7AM.

Nothing like waking up to seeing some old school acts. Reminds me of when I used to wake up Saturday mornings in the 80's to catch various music programs like Soul Train or American Bandstand. Or just some shows where they'd show music videos. Or maybe MTV or BET.
