Have people forgotten the fact that Madonna actually produces great music?

I'm listening to Like A Prayer right now in it's entirety for the first time as I'm writing this. The fact that she's a media whore (or the media's a whore for her, whichever way you wanna put it) has overshadowed the fact that she has produced some great music.

Like A Prayer is very good, by the way. smile

I wouldn't say that...American Life wasn't her best, but it was only one record, an experimental and acoustic one at that. She tries new things. Remember, Music was only 3 years ago...one misstep does not mean you don't get a second chance wink

And there are some really great songs on AL, too: Love Profusion, Nothing Fails, X-Static Process, Intervention, and Mother and Father (overproduced but a killer chorus).

and i actually think american life is one of her best. the three most listened to madonna records in my apartment are american life, erotica and like a prayer.

all of this 'madonna used to be good' talk has me laughing. i remember peeps saying that when erotica came out, when bedtime story came out, when evita came out, etc., etc. the point? bitch is still working her work. and she will continue to. the fact that she has, like, at least 30 posts on a message board devoted to another artist speaks volumes.

used to make good music? old and disgraceful?

riiight. wink

Amen. Every album in an artist's ouevre can't be a Ray Of Light or a Like A Prayer, after all.

sigh "Ray of Light" & "Like a Prayer" are her masterpieces, I don't expect her to top them. I've liked EVERY album she's had out upto "music". which has nothing to do with the mentioned albums. I said USED TO because in the now I don't think she makes good music, what's so bad about that?
this is all subjective, of course. What's one man's garbage is another's riches.
why does EVERYONE have to like madonna or get jumped on? I don't like her recent music, deal with it rolleyes

Her last two albums are my favorites by her. I also love Erotica, Bedtime Stories and Ray of Light.

And I think you make a great point. The media is a whore for her.

I've never been much of a fan, but I do like: "Dear Jesse," "Oh Father," "Secret," "The Power of Goodbye," "Frozen," and the cover of "Love Don't Live Here Anymore." nod

naw, seriously, i wasn't meaning to jump on you for your likes and dislikes...just pointing out that "used to" is not fact but merely an opinion.

TRON

I know I'm different among Madonna fans, but I think all her main albums from Erotica on beat anything she released during her so called hey day. She's only gotten better in my opinion.

thank you smile

I'm amazed at how many people look at 'American Life' as being a career-ending project for Madonna. That's ludicrous. She does ONE album that doesn't sell as well as the others and they're ready to say that she's over.'American Life' is just one album,it's a part of her amazing journey. It's the artistic statement she needed to make at this point in her life, and some folks just didn't "get it".As Donna Summer once said "An artist may not always be in sync with the public, but they should always be in sync with themselves".

don't forget "Nobody Knows Me" and "Easy Ride",which I now consider two of her best songs ever.

Her new single drops Dec. 9...Nothing Fails/ Love Profusion club remixes. Apparently, they're her best since the Music remixes.
