Could they possibly look any more 80's!
(Now, when I think of it Genesis from the Real World--some seasons ago--reminds me of the blonde.) You gotta admit...they did sing better than V6.

I'm a huge Rick James fan, I love the MJG's more than Vanity 6.

The basslines to Break It Up and Boys are just fantastic.

I'm so envious of people who were old enough in the early 80s and in the USA.

I think I was born 1 generation too late sad

They have a "Best Of" and you can't even buy "Vanity 6" for less than a trillion dollars on CD!? A crime!

A lot!! (Well, they only 2 released albums, but, they were both great).

The Best of titled "In My House" is the best I think.

There was another best of released in the UK with a limo on the cover, it had a few different tracks, but only album tracks from the 2nd album I think, "In My House" is the best MJG Best Of.

Songs to look out for:
- Boys
- Candy Man
- Shadow Lover
- Break It Up
- Wild & Crazy Love
- Prove It (my favourite)
- All Night Long (as in the song Mary J. Blige sampled/re-used).
- Leather Queen (I know it's camp trash, but that's the point!)

There are several unreleased Rick James recordings that I know of.In the late 60s,as you pointed out,he was in a band with Neil Young called The Mynah Birds. They completed a whole album for Motown, but it was never released. There are also a few solo Rick James singles,pre-Motown.In the early 70s,Rick was in another band called The Great White Cane and in 1972,they completed an album.A single called "Mother Earth" was released.

There is also an unreleased Mary Jane Girls album from 1986.This would have been their third album. It was produced by Rick James and titled 'Conversation'.One of the tracks is "Walk Like A Man",a remake of the old Four Seasons hit that appeared in a Ted Danson comedy.Rick was feuding with Motown in '86,and there was a tug-of-war situation regarding the Mary Jane Girls.Motown was willing to let Rick out of his contract, but they wanted to keep The Mary Jane Girls and pair them up with producers Jam and Lewis for a new album.Somehow,Rick convinced the girls to refuse Motown's offer, and they left the label right along with James.Unfortunately, they never signed with another label or recorded any other albums.Rick signed with Warner Bros, and reached the top of the R&B charts in 1988 with "Loosey's Rap".A follow-up album titled 'Kickin' was rejected by Warners in 1989,and he spent most of the 90s without a record deal.

Hopefully, one day,Motown will finally release the 'Conversation' album. They could release a Mary Jane Girls greatest hits set,and add 'Convseration' as a bonus second disc.

Great story. Yeah, if record companies in general would release stuff from their valuts...wow. They wouldn't be hurting for sales. Well just see how the Beatles "Let it Be Naked" does and find out! Then again, they might need permission. Although, not with OOP stuff, right? The record companies suck!

Yep, I'm very fimiliar with that story about Rick pulling the plug on them lol the thang I heard is he BOUGHT Mary Jane's non-released masters so the thought of Motown re-issuing a GH CD with a bonus Cd that features "Conversation" is out of the ?uestion.

I think ol' boy Rick got himself a real treat, perhaps its time 4 him to release that since his concerts ain't doing much at all, that would make him alot of money.

No, Harley!!! Believe me, you had to hear this shit. Tweet killed that muthafuckin' song and made it her own. Her band was even on point with keeping much of the music in that same Rick James funk-type of vibe. The song was simply amazing!!!

Oh... My... God!

This brings back unfortunate memories of my early teens. I never heard their music but there was a poster of them in a weekly pop mag that I kept for a long time and was very keen on. It was the slightly butch girl in the leather mini skirt that was the major source of fascination for me at the time.

Forgotten all about that. lol.
