If they ever make a movie about Marvin Gaye's life... Who do you think should play Marvin? My mother insists that Maxwell would be a good choice.Several years ago,I recall Bobby Brown (!!!) saying that HE should be given that role. So,what do you think? D'Angelo, perhaps?

well,
thats a tough one david', im sooo partial when it comes to MARVIN GAYE, hes one of my favorite musicians of all times...an apon saying that, maxwell cetainly has tha better voice quality than bobbie brownpipe, every time maxwell sings "somethang somethang" when he hits those high notes i automatically think of MARVIN GAYE, so give yer moma 5 points fur that suggestion...an as fur tha' MARVIN GAYE "look", maybe morris chestnut, i think bobbie had a drup induced stroke, an it kinda distorts his mouth...(an anotha' thang MARVIN wasnt ugly!) i dont know, but thats a great idea, i hope one day itll happen... Definitely D'Angelo, but I have a feeling that his acting would not be up to par.

A friend of mine is a producer at Tristar pictures. She`s the one making deciosions of what is being filmed at what not. She gets to read a lot of scripts every day. One day, back in 1997, she had a brilliant script about the life of Marvin Gaye on her desk. But tristar has decided against it -- because in every scene you would see Marvin doing coke. Unfortunately, that was the reality, so she doubts that there will ever be a realistic movie about Marvin... "Peace and Benz -- The future, made in Germany"

I would choose Brian McKnight. good soft voice, looks similar (give him a little face stubble), seems to be the right age range, I think he could pull it off.
and he's . [This message was edited Wed Oct 22 13:32:35 PDT 2003 by jthad1129] ---------------------------------

MOS DEF should be the number one pick-- he has the acting skills and the look of that era and he can also sing!

I just really hope they don't do it. There isn't a good enough singer that can act and a good enough actor that can sing. Fuck, look how they murdered Frankie Lymon's story in Why Do Fools Fall In Love.

Yes, but look at what a great job Angela Basset did as Tina Turner without singing a note. The actor shouldnt have to actually sing. "...all you need ...is justa touch...of mojo hand....."

I say the guy who played "Buggin' Out" in "Do The Right Thing," Giancarlo Esposito. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
Props will be withheld until the showing and proving has commenced. -- Aaron McGruder

I think Maxwell looks like a faggot. Worst choice ever!!
Lawrence Fishborne is a real actor and would do the role justice. Fishborne can play anybody he's great.

I personally don't want to know about the man's demons. His music is the voice of god (IMO) and I want to remember his name in that light.

I thought Usher did an okay job when he played Marvin on "American Dreams". Maxwell would be a great choice if were up for it.

i think we're talking more about portraying marvin the man i like the choices of laurence f, denzel w, and d'angelo maxwell would be a poor choice because he looks nothing like marvin and he sounds more like classic prince although marvin struggled with drugs, there certainly was more 2 the man than doing coke the movie should reveal what drove him 2 drugs and shed light on his stressful relationship with the man who killed him: his father marvin was a legend his legacy should be remembered with respect

Yeah,I was afraid of that. That's probably why we won't ever get a movie about Marvin. His life was filled with so much drama and tragedy, and if you're gonna be honest and tell the REAL story, you have to show everything. It would be difficult for his fans and family to see all that.Several years ago,I read a book called "Trouble Man: The Life and Death of Marvin Gaye" by Steve Turner. This is a very insightful book, but it paints a devastating picture of his life.

A better read is "Divided Soul" by David Ritz who did this book with Marvin.. David is the co-author of "Sexual Healing", so he was close to the man... "Peace and Benz -- The future, made in Germany"

Fishburne! I'd love to see him in a great movie that should win him the Oscar he's been cheated out for "What's Love Got To Do With It". And he shouldn't have to sing a note is right. It will probably never happen though. Hopefully they don't make a watered down TV movie that isn't about the music at all (or focuses on just "What's Going On?"). I'm not a huge Marvin Gaye fan so it might not be my place to say this but a watered down or overdramtic TV movie is worse than no movie at all.

Laurence Fishburne is a hell of an actor, but I think it would be overkill for him to play Marvin.I mean,he has already played Ike Turner in a film (and did a great job, btw).

Either Q-tip or that brother with the goatee from that TV show "Law and Order"!

I've heard nonsense choices ranging from Morris Chestnut to Maxwell. Neither looks anything like the man. My nod would have to go to an actor-- an unknown actor. However, I don't know why people want Denzel or Fishburne to play the role. It would be too hard to pretend it was Marvin.
If they're gonna do it right-- they won't because the truth ain't pretty-- they would get a talented, hungry unknown actor that resembles him (Morris Chestnut???) and make it gritty. Of course only somebody that loves and appreciates Marvin would tell that story right and Hollywood isn't gonna do it.
