Ahhh, now someone's talking my language...jazz. This song itself, along with the rest of the album, is the shiznit!!! But you're right, it is a schweet solo. I really dig his 23-minute version of My Favorite Things too. Sometimes, I can't stand listening to the shortened 13-minute version just because I know it goes on longer. LOL!

kind of off topic, but I caught a half hour doc on Elvin Jones from 1979 last week. It was amazing watching him as he broke down how he would create a polyrythmic solo from a simple melody.
Summertime is great btw. My personal favourite Jones solo is on the second take of Africa.

WHAT track is Elvin on that he's not "THA SHIZNIT"? That cat was always ripping it up! I remember watching an interview with him and he had mention how his drum stick flew out of his hand and hit Coltrane in the head while playing a gig, afterwards he apologized to John, and John said "I thought somebody finally got tired of me taking long solos".

Yeah Elvin IS the shit! That quartet was awesome! i have this bootleg (that actually is an album called "John Coltrane Gold" that is sold in stores!) of this group playing some club gig. The material is all pretty much A Love Supreme but they are killin' especially Elvin and McCoy. Finally some jazz people! :^)

That's sick. That whole LP is a sublime delight. I like Art Blakey's version and Mingus' version as well. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I really feel gulty 4 not having much knowledge about John Coltrane's stuff ya'll. I did a small essay about him in my high school time(based on the internet and from my father) the students weren't following me at all, however the music teacher told me that it was a nice essay(even tho they're couple o' mistakes in there).
The only ONE thang I got from John is his "Blue Note" album. I heard Chaka many times states him as one of her Jazz heroes(Bird, Charlie, Dizzy & Miles are too). Speaking of which, she pre4med a tribute song 4 him called "Coltrane's Dream" in her 86 album "Disteny".

Funny you should mention that because he really made only one album on Blue Note, and that was "Blue Train" (he wasnt confident enuff in 1958 to call it "Blue Trane"). Its a baaad record. To bad every one on it except for Curtis Fuller is dead now. Coltrane's one and only Blue Note disc .. while he has recorded tons for Atlantic, Prestige and Impulse (and Columbia while with Miles). On topic: Yes, Summertime rocks. The best work by Elvin in my opinion is on "Out of this world" on Trane's Blue Album simply titled "Coltrane". "Peace and Benz -- The future, made in Germany"

well,
THIS IS ONE OF "THE MOST" REFRESHING THREADS IN A WHILE!!! thank you, thank you! :his contributions to jazz are as nature to earthquakes PHENOMENAL! i love his stuff, ive got this CD, i found in a used CD warehouse for a $6.99...got it home, played it, its now one of my top 10 in my diskchanger, i wouldnt have it any other way. his style is impeccable, distinctive, even though his "sound" is unexpected he still had a meaningful standard...FRESH and DIFFERENT! ah rare form these days, *... "ive always said, that if you have to ask for something more than once or twice, it wasnt yours in the first place"...*
