Saw the Broadway show with Stephanie Mills back in '76 or '77. The Wiz was the first broadway musical I ever saw. We had lousy seats but it was very powerful, very moving.

Okay, I confess! I confess! As a youth, I checked out "The Wiz Soundtrack" on vinyl LP (yes, I'm THAT old) from the downtown branch library in Atlanta, GA. I had seen the movie and loved Michael Jackson as the scarecrow, and the Lion's song about being a "Mean Ol' Lion". However, the song that blew me away in the film was Lena Horne's top-notch performance of "Believe in Yourself". I knew that "Home" was supposed to be THE song of the play, and I heard Stephanie Mills' version prior to the movie and was blown away by it. However, Diana Ross in the movie role couldn't pull it off for me. But when Miss Horne sang that song she had me convinced! So, I checked out the double LP from the library and kept it until I was out of college. I finally returned it sometime in the early '90s when the library offered an amnesty on overdue books and material.
