The Wiz:soundtrack I ifnally broke down and got the (expensive!) cd after the cassette was around for 20 years and never listened to for over a decade. When MJ's You Can't Win comes on it brings back the feel of how great the music is. Poppies, Quincy got off, showjg he;s funky. Slide Some Oil lol. Home (nuff said) etc. Ease on down...ease..ease on down..ease on down. "Climb in my fur."

I don't have the soundtrack but the music alone makes it one of my favorite movies. Certainly my favorite musical along with Sound of Music. It's a childhood favorite.

You know what's funny? I bought this soundtrack about 6 months ago just to put "You Can't Win" on my little MJ comp. Not only did I not put the song on there, I can hardly stand to listen to it
I don't know what it is - I love it in theory but I skip it on disc for some odd reason The 2 songs on this soundtrack that blow me away are "Be A Lion"... sweet little melody, starts off real delicate then builds into a fucking monster ... and Lena Horn's version of "Believe In Yourself"... whoo! yeaaa, believe! I can almost cry when I hear that thinking of all she must have gone through to make her place in the world as she powers through those lyrics - that's more than a showtune, that's some powerful shit right there The Poppy Girls instrumental is pretty sweet too... Aside from "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" and portions of the self-titled Donna Summer album, this is Q's peak.
Hot grooves (Green/Red/Gold) salsa like Broadway was supposed to be this funky. Chicken grease positively dumped like pig's blood all over the fancy threads of songs like "Ease On Down the Road" and "He's the Wizard," both of which bounce like Rerun. And whereas normally musicals that end in a string of ballads are just asking for trouble, here it's just about the most perfect thing in the world. Great glitz. By the way, I was suprised while watching 1969's Italian Job to hear an early version of the dramatic chord progression that climaxes "So You Wanted to See the Wizard?!" ____________________________
