ok, maybe i'm the only one (on the org) who likes her. maybe there has just been so much great music in the past couple of weeks that she just slipped by (can anyone say e badu or outkast?). one thing is for sure, though, and that is that natalie merchant's new cd, offering what she calls 'folk music', is stunning and beautiful, haunting and hopeful. i always enjoy her music but this cd is different. it shows natalie's influences and ambitions as a songwriter. i am not sure if she actually wrote anything on this cd...i think they are all old folk songs that she loves to sing. i've heard her do a lot of them at her shows on various tours.

there's no point in giving a detailed description of the cd. if you are a fan of ms. merchant than you know what to expect from her. this cd is no exception to her standards, even if she did not write the tracks herself.

with all of this great music coming out now (rufus, bowie, and the above mentioned) i hope some of you will check out this great collection of work.

I enjoyed her work with 1000 Maniacs much more than her solo work.

I love Natalie's work but I haven't seen her album out yet in Spain.
I'll buy it as soon as I see it.

it may be a harder one to see...she's gone the way of prince, in regards to her own label. the new cd has been released since 16 september but i've only seen it in one store (border's bookstore) so far. you may need to order it from her website, www.nataliemerchant.com to get in anytime soon.
