DeBarge.... I remember when 'switch' first came out with that one lp
then they were gone. Then came DeBarge and the putted around for a bit. Now as both groups there was potential there, moreso in the DeBarge faze but it got me to thinking. Do you supose they would have fared better had they come under prince's musical control??? And whut of prince himself, Do you think with all the changes he goes through (musicaly) Would he be any worse for ware taking up with Quincy Jones? I AM King BAD a.k.a. BAD,

well there you go pass the first lp/song i don't remember anything 'til DeBarge broke out. The first Switch album (released in 1978) featured the hit "There'll Never Be". The second Switch album (released in 1979) features the hits "I Call Your Name" and "Best Beat In Town". The third Switch album, which I consider their best, features the hits "Love Over and Over Again" and You And I".It was released in late 1980.

Ooooh, a DeBarge thread!!! This was the first vinyl I ever had purchased for me. My mom bought their second album for me as a graduation present. I used to love them so much. Bobby was my first crush, followed up by El years later. No Switch song does it for me like Calling All Girls. I'm glad Chico got his shit together and he blew up after getting out of prison. His new album is very nice.

what's the terrorist ish about? i never heard Hi, Nikki... It was more of a horrible misunderstanding than---I don't mean to make excuses but...the reports were that Bobby DeBarge was "loudly" and repeatedly saying, "Hi-jack" while on an airliner during flight. When he was asked to stop he didn't and continued with his "Hi, Jack!" jokes. When I read about this I thought he was acting the real peaon, he was toked, and he thought he was being funny...the folks on board understandably didn't see the humor in it at all and he was detained for the remainder of the flight. Bobby was taken into custody, but I'm uncertain of whether any charges were pressed against him or not. And, this occured only a small few years before his death.

I love me some f*ckin DeBarge!
Eldra DeBarge is my favorite singer. I'd always heard about the DeBarge family being influential in R&B and so I bought an Ultimate Collection CD and found out how good they were. I recently just got El's new Ultimate Collection CD off of Amazon. I was happy to see him featured in DJ Quik's DVD Visualism. Quik gives mad props to El and I respect him for that. Their collaborations together are tight. It's funny to hear El sing about nasty stuff and still make it sound not that nasty. El DeDarge and the whole DeBarges are underappreciated in music today. And no I don't feel they would've faired better with Prince because they were talented enough to handle things their own way. The family wrote some classics. I am listening 2 Chico DeBarge's "Long Time No See" album...
a classic. I like Eldra's "Stay With Me" with 4play. Still prefer t 2 it's sampler counterparts although B.I.G's version DOES rock! 'dre Tried many flavours - but sooner or later, always go back to the Purple Kool-aid!

Yeah,I remember that album.I also remember when El left the group in the mid-80s,they released an album without him.It featured a horrible single called "Dance All Night" from 1987. Did you know that Bobby passed away in 1995? May he rest in peace. [This message was edited Tue Sep 16 6:13:33 PDT 2003 by DavidEye] man, the DeBarges should be havin family outings with the Jackson clan, what Chico was a convict,One of em did some terrorist shit on a plane,Bunny was doin Porn, lol... as for "Eldra"???... he'll be in a crackhouse somewhere in a year or 2, if not already.. El is doing okay.He does concerts regularly, and he is still popular on Quiet Storm-type stations. What's this about Bunny doing porn??!! It's funny...when Janet Jackson married one of the Debarge guys,HER family acted as if they were too good to be associated with a family like that...lol...they made her get the marriage annulled. But now it's clear that BOTH families have major issues...lol i remember that. i don't know if they thought they were too good, but i don't know any parents that would want their kid marrying a crackhead that beat her up. i didn't know El was still touring. solo or with some jazz musicians.? There is a big rumor that Janet and James had a baby together in the mid-80s,and that Janet gave it to her sister Rebbie to raise. This rumor just won't die...lol...in any case,Janet didn't really wanna end the marriage, she was pressured to do so by her family. She wrote a song (with Jesse Johnson) called "You Stole My Heart",which was dedicated to James. It's an outtake from the 'Control' album.I still think that her 1993 song "Where Are You Now?" is really about James. El tours solo these days, and he plays in my area all the time.I've never been to one of his shows,so I'm not sure who his musicians are. I remember that baby rumor like it was only yesterday! I also remember being a teenager seeing a picture of them together in either "Right On!" or "Black Beat" magazine ('cause I used to read both RELIGIOUSLY) with Janet sitting in James's lap, with a caption underneath the photo announcing that they were expecting baby in the next coming February!!! Does anybody out there remember all the press they got in the Black magazines talking about them expecting? Then suddenly, by the time that February rolled around there was nary a baby (or a husband)to be seen! I betcha my moms (being the pack rat that she is) might still have a lot of my old magazines in her attic- what I wouldn't give to be able to get my hands on that pic and post it for y'all; they were all bright eyed and beaming, and Janet really looked pregnant (either that or she was going through a fat phase). But then, after that marriage was annulled, nobody in the press ever brought up that baby issue again. She was pregnant by James, but had a miscarriage. This was announced when it happened. She was about 4 months along. James talked about this in an interview some time in the 90's and said he also heard about a second pregnacy rumor and that Jan gave the baby to Rebbie. He said "I hope it's not true. I will be very upset if it is" When did she say that?

Then Bobby got with members of DeBarge (James, Randy and Mark) and released the Bad Boys CD which didn't take off, and had, I believe, only the one single release, "I Got You Babe" which is kind of a nice song... btw...They performed it on Soul Train, David... Janet appeared on the cover of VIBE magazine a few years ago (right before the 'All For You' CD came out),and of course, this rumor came up in the interview. The writer pointed out that, since Janet basically lied to her fans about being married, they probably would not believe her when she denies the baby rumor. That seems to be the price of fame...you pretty much can't keep anything to yourself, especially when it comes to babies, marriages, etc.
