Sorry Sue, I never meant for it to be a racist comment. It was actually a joke, even though I know it wasn't funny.

I heard about this greatest hits collection thing.
1) Why does he need ANOTHER Greatest Hits, when he's only made two other albums since the last GH?

2) The name of it..."Number 1's" or something like that. I've heard some of the songs that are supposedly on this GH and some of them didn't even get to number one.

No. It's just bollocks. Some French fanclub with a couple of connections leaked that #1s idea to HitsDailyDouble. Loads of websites always list non existent items as coming up. Blimey, even Invincible was supposed to be released in November 1999 and had working titles listed on store computers.

Nothing is confirmed yet, aside from Backerman (MJ's official spokesperson) saying we should be hearing news or seeing signs of promotion of some sort before the end of the year. A hits album IS due. Whether it'll be a box set or just a single disc with a few new songs isn't confirmed. It's the last unit to be released from his current contract, so I reckon there are still negotiations to be made about the future.

Anyway, latest MJNI HotShot is rather interesting:

===

Michael Jackson Has Double Connection to Potential Publishing Deal
One of the world's largest music publishing companies, Warner/Chappell Music Publishing, might be up for grabs rather soon according to The Deal, the weekly magazine about dealmaking.

Michael Jackson links two of the potential buyers.

Referring to Charles Koppelman, who is part of the new team that Michael is employing for the new phase in his career, The Deal reported on 15th September: "Leading the way is former CBS music publishing chief Charles Koppelman. Sources said Koppelman, now Michael Jackson's manager, has lined up financial backing from Goldman, Sachs & Co. and GTCR to make a run at Warner/Chappell."

Warner/Chappell is part of the AOL/Time Warner company, but might be merging with BMG hence the rumours about it coming up for sale.

Among other potential buyers are executives of Sony/ATV Music Publishing, who have publicly stated that they would take a "serious look" at Warner/Chappell if it became available.

Sony/ATV is joint owned by Sony Corp and Michael Jackson, and according to The Deal, their interest in Warner/Chappell would "open up a potential partnership" between Koppelman and themselves - because of the King of Pop connection. The magazine reports:

"While sources said both buyers are just as likely to pursue Warner/Chappell independently as in tandem, forming a partnership gives them a strategic advantage over the other players. It could also help smooth over some of the bad blood that surfaced between Michael Jackson and Sony a few years ago."

Warner/Chappell is not officially for sale. However, sources told The Deal that we could expect a sale by the end of October.

And the likely price tag of Warner/Chappell...? Over $1 billion.

Right, NOW this is cause to believe it because finally a reliable source (MJNI) has confirmed it.

Sony announce release of new Hits package
SONY Music UK have this evening provided MJNI with the following press release regarding a new album of Michael Jackson's greatest hits. The album is entitled "Michael Jackson - Number Ones" and has a release date of 17th November 2003.

The news about the Epic album (which Michael first referred to at MJNI's Killer Thriller Party in June 2002) was not due to be issued this week, so MJNI have double checked with Michael's spokespeople who have confirmed that, although premature, this information is valid.

MJNI will shortly issue official news about Michael's further plans.

The following is verbatim from Sony Music UK

Michael Jackson
Number Ones
Released November 17th

Michael Jackson's music has been at the heart of music for 30 years - and for the first time on one album - 'Number Ones' - the definitive must have collection - will be made available as a single disc CD - on November 17th.

'Number Ones' will feature eighteen legendary Michael Jackson tracks - including 6 UK NO.1's - plus a brand new single 'One More Chance' - released TBC

The CD includes such timeless hits as: 'Thriller', 'Beat It', 'I Just Can't Stop Loving You' and 'The Way You Make Me Feel'. Tracks which take you instantly back in time to Michael's groundbreaking and innovative seven Epic solo albums: 'Off The Wall', 'Thriller', 'Bad' , 'Dangerous', 'History', 'Blood On The Dance Floor' and 'Invincible' - brilliant tunes and unbelievable dance moves from one of the greatest artists in the world.

'Number Ones' - takes you right back to what makes it all so important - the music - like the song says: do you Remember The Time?

To date, Michael has sold over 12 million albums in the UK and 180 million worldwide. He has had 78 UK hit singles and 8 UK No.1.s (including The Jackson Five hits).

Michael Jackson - 'Number Ones' - an album that every household will want to own ...

What a SHIT tracklisting. WTF is it called Number Ones? Sure, loads of those that weren't US #1s were international #1s, but some weren't (e.g. Thriller) which could be replaced by ones that were (e.g. They Don't Care About Us), especially when the former was already on the crappy tracklisting for HIStory Begins.

I'm a true fan, but I'm nowhere near as naive and gullible as you and a lot of other fans are. VITILIGO MY ASS! Did you see how black homeboy was in the Thriller and Making of Thriller videos? And he wasn't that light in Captain EO either, but he sure lightened up the following year on the cover of the Bad album.

Anyway, I think OTW is his best work followed by:
Destiny
Dangerous
Thriller
Triumph
The Jacksons (aka Enjoy Yourself)
Dancing Machine
Got To be There
History
Forever Michael music

Funny how he was olive skinned for the Bad video and album cover in 1987 yet went back to BLACK for parts of the Bad tour. FUnny how he was BLACK during the 1985 rehearsals of Captain EO but for the filiming slapped all the thick make-up on and went light, but was still BLACK for public appearances the rest of that year. Funny how in some photos as late as 1990 he looks as dark as he did a decade earlier. It's all make-up.

That tracklist is BS and shows how over MJ/Sony are.

What about the business? That means Sony/ATV stays where it is but is interested in Warner/Chappell? MJ keeps ATV and ATV could purchase his new label, is that right? confuse

He still co-owns Sony/ATV. Although I heard that if he left the label he'd walk away with ATV alone. Sony wouldn't be happy with that, it was their main source of income keeping them out of the red in 2001 because of The Beatles' '1' album.

A new album is expected in the near future? Not a GH?
Where have you heard this news? smile

WonHungLo, I do believe he has vitiligo. I have seen a few pictures a while back that clearly show he suffers from it.
Yesh he uses a lot of make up. perhaps that's a reason why he looks darker in parts of his Bad tour.
On his Bad cover, using a lot of make up, he's bound to. And then already his vitiligo is bad, so he uses the make up to cover up the patches and on his face, to match the rest of his body.
On his tour, he seems darker, perhaps the light? or the fact that vitiligo has not quite reached his head, and there's no use for a make up on stage 'casue of the sweat and stuff...

Pfft I duno. But I truely believe that MJ has vitiligo.

Song: "Human Nature" (Beautiful song.)

Album: "Off The Wall" (Loved the tone of his vocals and the freshness of his material. You can tell that Michael was really blossoming with this album and it was the rainshower before the tsunami known to the world as "Thriller.")

Era: Off The Wall (I love the innocence of Michael and the newness of him and his craft during this era. Singles like "Rock With You" and "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough." Plus some of the best album tracks of all-time such as "I Can't Help It," "It's The Falling In Love" and the Paul McCartney penned "Girlfriend."
