Get "Kool Funk Essentials". It has, IMO, one of their funkiest instrumentals ever, "Starchild".

As with most funk bands, anything before 1976...and then after that you really will be taking the risk of picking up some cheesy tunes!

I think it's a shame that these guys don't have a multi-disc box set by now.They've been making music since the late 60s,and they've certainly accumulated enough hits throughout the years.
