Get "Kool Funk Essentials". It has, IMO, one of their funkiest instrumentals ever, "Starchild". NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

As with most funk bands, anything before 1976...and then after that you really will be taking the risk of picking up some cheesy tunes! -----------------------------------------------

If you wanna start with compilations,I suggest you begin with these two...
***"The Best of Kool & The Gang 1969-1976" (Funk Essentials) "Funky Stuff" "Who's Gonna Take The Weight Pts. 1 & 2" "Rhyme Time People" "Hollywood Swinging" "Love The Life You Live Pts.1 &2" "Give It Up" "Chocolate Buttermilk" "Jungle Boogie" "Let The Music Take Your Mind (extended version) "Open Sesame Pt.2" "Kool It (Here Comes The Fuzz)" "Summer Madness"( Live) "N.T.,Pts. 1&2" "Pneumonia" "Love and Understanding (Come Together)" "Spirit Of The Boogie" ***"Celebration: The Best of Kool and The Gang 1979-1987" (Funk Essentials) "Celebration" "Get Down On It" "Fresh" "Too Hot" "Take My Heart (You Can Have It If You Want It)" "Let's Go Dancing (Ooh La,La,La)" "Misled" "Cherish" (12" Version) "Ladies' Night" "Steppin' Out" "Joanna" "In The Heart" "Take It To The Top" "Tonight" (12" Version) "No Show" "Straight Ahead" "Stone Love" I think it's a shame that these guys don't have a multi-disc box set by now. They've been making music since the late 60s,and they've certainly accumulated enough hits throughout the years.
