What are THE Led Zeppelin albums to have in my collection?

After years of denial, I finally gave Led Zeppelin a listen and I am converted. Jimmy Page is great but John Bonham is the man. Don't get me wrong, I love the WHOLE band. What albums should I get and what are THE songs to have in my collection?

You gotta have the first 4 then Houses of the Holy and Physical Grafitti. Then you're set. Oh wait, you gotta get their new live DVD as well.

Thanks guys. I don't know which CD I heard, but it was one of the more recently released ones (last year?) I think. It was one of their live performances. Damn. They tore the roof off the motherf*cka!

Start with II, IV, & Houses of the Holy. All three are flawless & most popular. Then I, III, & Physical Graffiti, these are just as good but not quite as commercial. At the very moment I think III & Physical Graffiti are the best, but I would never have thought that when I 1st got into them (but I was 13). After you have all of the above, then get the rest...Presence, In Through The Out Door, Coda, & The Song Remains the Same.

...enjoy getting the Led out!

I'd say their first 6 are essential. Start at the beginning and work forwards OR get the four cd remaster box set which can be found really reasonably priced and then you can get an overview of the quality if their material over a decade.

I WOULD ALSO ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND THEIR DVD WHICH IS THE KIND OF RELEASE THAT MAKES PRINCE LOOK LIKE A CHEAP USELESS LETS-SCREW-THE-FANS-ONE-MORE-TIME ASSHOLE

From one Nova to another: Bonham's right foot is pure gold. His rhythmic instincts will make you shake your head in awe. He will take you on one funky ride after another. A lesser drummer would have made their music MUCH less interesting.

It could be legitimately argued that Page is a more accomplished producer than guitarist. The other folks in this thread already made any suggestions I would have. Do it. Prepare thyself for an experience. And go in peace my namesake. nod

The DVD is amazing! Page did such an awesome job with this and the 3-CD set "How The West Was Won" is great too. Bonham was/is the best drummer in rock, there is no doubt about it. It has not left my CD player since I bought it back in June.

You have a choice:

Buy the 10 cd-box, so you get the four bonustracks on Coda.
Or ... try to find the japanese editions, which have a copy of the origional LP-sleeves!

I wouldn't start with a live-album. That's nice, if you're still hungry after you've consumed the studio albums
