Record stores in NYC Can anyone recommend any good record stores in NYC? New or Used CDs at good prices, wide variety, rareities, etc. | |

Take the F or V train (or A, C or E?) to West 4th, get out at the West 8th St. exit and walk a few steps down 6th Ave to West 8th. Start with Revolver Records. It's on 45 West 8th St. - the second floor. You'll find rare CDs, videos, DVDs, & even LPs. If this is some Prince-related quest, they also have issues of Uptown. The guys there are pretty smart. Generation Records on Thompson St. is the next closest. Walk down West 8th to MacDougal and cut through Washington Square park. Thompaon has a church on the corner and Generation is a few blocks down. Lots of good hard-to-find and yes, bootleg music. Walking down Thompson, if you take a right on Bleecker, you'll also come across Golden Disc Records, which has a pretty good selection too. Somewhere along the way, you'll also come across a shop on Jones St. that specializes in 80s music, such as Prince, Madonna & Bowie. I think it might be called Rebel Rebel, but I'm not sure. I found some cool stuff there not too long ago like a Lovesexy tourbook. | |

I found some cool stuff there not too long ago like a Lovesexy tourbook. isn't that record store on w. 8th called "revolution" records? if not, janfan, you should check that one out too. they have lots of prince goodies! also, bleecker street records has a great selection. i don't remember the exact address (maybe 250 bleecker st.) but i know it's (lol) on bleecker street and i think just after carmine. the store is great...lots of selection, not just prince! and exactly 3 doors past bleeker street records is the best pastry shop i've ever been to! buy some wreckas and have an espresso and some kinda mousse tart! | |

Revolver is on 8th street and Revolution is on Thompson. Revolver kinda sucks though, stick with Revolution.
Now, the stores listed above are great for bootlegged stuff, but if it's just regular CD's you're looking for (new and used), take the 6 train to Astor place or the N/R trains to 8th street. Walk east onto St. Marks Place, and check out at least 3 stores on either side. One place is downstairs and the other two are upstairs. Just stay between 2nd and 3rd street. These stores have new CD's for about $12.99 or less and the cost of used CD's vary. Also, take the 1/9 trains to Christopher Street, or B/D/F/A/C/E trains to 4th street and walk up 4th street. There's a store called Disc O Rama on 4th and 7th. They usually have new CD's for about $9.99. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

Bleecker Bob's/Golden Disc is on Bleecker after a rather large intersection and there is another smallish record store on Bleecker on the way there. | |

Generation is a pretty cool place as well. Bleeker Bob's is great in their selection, but the products can be quite expensive. Plus, the staff aren't the friendliest (thru my experiences anyway). You can also swing over to Prince St. to Rocks in Your Head. They've got a pretty cool selection of music, movies and books. Plus the coolest staff. I'll add Kim's in St. Marks bet. 2nd and 3rd. and Other music on 4th street both got a good selection of obscure music. Prices are so-so... | |
