Terence Trent D'Arby

Right now Terence Trent D'Arby is just my absolute favourite artist (NEWS or Wildcard? Like there's a contest) so i'm looking for a guiding hand from a more experienced TTD/Sananda fan. Is there any live albums from him or anything worth getting apart from his main studio releases?

Well, I've got every TTD boot worth owning (all soundboard), and all the rare and unreleased stuff too across 6 or 7 full cds

He certainly is an incredibly underrated artist

yes he is!...with an incredibly overrated self opinion! LOL

but, yeah, his body of work is just amazing and should really be more respected by the industry.

He's far from egotistical actually
Speaking to him after a show recently he came across as very humble, and stayed with us fans for over 30mins backstage

If there's one thing I cannot stand, it's self-importance
TTD is far from that mould

I absolutely co-sign the 1st part of your post, Sananda is by far my favourite artist at the moment, his voice is breath-taking and his songs (music as well as lyrics) are fantastic!!
There is no official Live CD released, but there was an official Live video from the "Introducing The Hardline Tour (though IMO it does by far not show what a great live performer he is). There are some bootlegs out as well, but not too many. Some concerts of him were broadcasted on different TV stations over the years (from different tours). He has (like Prince) a lot of great non-album B-sides as well as some songs on various soundtracks and samplers.

I assume you already know his official site http://www.sanandamaitreya.com where you can find all kind of infos as well as tons of photos, writings of him and free downloads.

Yeah I've got the live hardline video- its OK, but not what I expected. I'm trying to locate some boots, with no real luck. Oh, and his site totally kicks the NPGMC's arse! I'm hoping he comes to Scotland soon

Yes, Sananda's site has a lot more to offer than the NPGMC which charges you 25 dollars for very little to nothing to get sad

ditto on most if not all of the above ...

unlike some other artists, it is fun to see Sananda's evolution ... in my honest opinion ... from "the Hardling" forward ... he just keeps getting better ...

I wore out "vibrator" and "symphony or damn" ... and am working on "wildcard" ... wish we could see him more in the States ...

i do think his voice is mesmerizing and sooo much like an orchestra all its own ...

I think TTD is a very talented brotha. As a writer and poet myself, I rank him as one of my favorite 10 lyricists of all time...SERIOUSLY!!! Brotha has an eloquent way of penning lyrics.

I thought that Neither Fish Nor Flesh was sheer greatness. One of the greatest albums of the 80's...AGAIN SERIOUSLY!!!

I have all the official releases but I have no bootlegs, just a couple of live downloads which were a bugger to find on Kazaa. I can't find any bootleg CDs unfortunately. I must do a search on e-bay every week, but no luck so far.

Anxiety

I downloaded about 40 minutes worth of songs from TTD's Web site recently...pair that with the excellent (but hard to find) TTD'S Greatest Hits (make sure you get the two-disc set!) and Wildcard, and you'll be well fed for a long time. smile

i keep hearing this, so maybe its true. one thing's for sure, though, he was sure nasty in philly back in may. he treated the staff of the troc horribly and made the audience wait for a very long time while he threw a temper tantrum backstage in regards to people sitting in the balcony and not being on the floor. he actually sent some people up to tell us that he was refusing to come out until we moved downstairs. we didn't and he did eventually come on to perform a short set which was later excused due to a curfew. the catch is, there is no midnite curfew for the troc...they have an afterhours license and most of their shows don't end before midnite.
but, maybe it was just a really bad mood for ttd and a very rare occurance. regardless, his music is still great.

TTD is a wonderful musician. Theres only a handful of albums he has released, so I would recommend picking them all up. Some may be tough to find since they are out of print, but if you look around in your mom and pop record shops, you're bound to find a used copy at a cheap price.

He also did a WONDERFUL song for the soundtrack to "The Fan" called "Letting Go". And the cassette copy of "Vibrator" has an extra track on it thats rather cool. He also released an album under a pseudonym (the name escapes me right now).

Unfortuneatly, in the 15 or so years that he's been releasing music, his output has been relatively limited when compared to Prince. However, when he does drop an album, its absolutely fantastic. He has really maintained his integrity as a musician over the span of his career and puts out some top notch stuff.

Was the extra track on Vibrator 'Angels Fly Because'? If so that's a great song. I think the album he released under a different name was credited to E.G.O'Reilly.

He didn't release an album as E.G.O'Reilly, but just a single "The Birth Of Maudie"

Its a shame there are no live albums, and a shame his boots are so hard to find, because I get the impression he would be a wonderful singer live.

I've got the audio of his live performance at the Grammys of 'If You Let Me Stay' in 1988. It's on a live album especially for Grammy awards performances and I got it just for him (although there are a few other good ones too). It's the worst live performance I've heard from him unfortunately. I wasn't impressed. But everything else has been top notch, particularly 'Turn The Page' from some mp3 that's going around the net. It's from a bootleg but not sure which one.
