Duran Duran play The Roxy in LA CA July15th

Duran Duran LIVE at the Roxy, Los Angeles on July 15th

DKNY//JEANS and The Fader Magazine Present
Duran Duran at the Roxy in Los Angeles, July 15th

Original lineup of band returns for first US show together in 18 years, celebrating their 25th anniversary at the first U.S. venue they ever played.

The original lineup of Duran Duran -Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Andy Taylor and Roger Taylor - will perform live together for the first time in the US in 18 years on July 15th with a concert at Los Angeles's Roxy Theatre presented by DKNY//JEANS and The Fader magazine.

Tickets are $25.00 and will go on sale on Monday, July 14th at noon at the Roxy Box Office.

The venue holds a great deal of history for the leaders of the "Second British Invasion" of the 1980s. The Roxy was the first U.S. venue at which Duran Duran ever performed, making it an apt place for the band to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their formation.

DKNY//JEANS and The Fader magazine are coming together to help reintroduce Duran Duran to a new generation. Through different platforms, both brands support the iconic music that inspire emerging artists who shape culture.

Susan Davidson, President of DKNY//JEANS, says "DKNY//JEANS is thrilled to be sponsoring such an innovative band at such an historic time. Through their music, Duran Duran became synonymous with originality, sexiness, and cool. DKNY//JEANS reflects that same sensibility through its fashion and lifestyle designs. The band and the brand are a perfect match."

In a move dubbed by British music bible, the NME, as one of 2003's most exciting musical developments, the entire original, five member line-up of Duran Duran has reunited in time for its 25th anniversary. The band is currently working on a new album, slated for a 2004 release. In addition, the band will be playing a series of special shows, and releasing several commemorative items before their new album hits stores early next year, including a Greatest Hits DVD, re-issues of classic Duran Duran albums, the launch of a new fan community, and more.

Launched in 1999, New York-based The FADER magazine is an international music-driven lifestyle publication covering music, fashion, art, and politics. The magazine, which has enjoyed notable success in a difficult advertising environment, has recently expanded from four to six issues per year. The FADER's circulation is 75,000 with 500,000 readers. The FADER is available for sale (US $5.95) at Tower Records, Virgin Megastores, HMV, Barnes & Noble, Borders and newsstands worldwide.

In addition, Simon & Nick will be calling in to The Kevin and Bean Show on KROQ radio in Los Angeles at around 8AM PST on July 9th to talk about their current Japanese tour and their upcoming US dates.

Well, there's a line forming of fans doin' the old overnighter! About 30-40 Duranies along the sidewalk tonight about 10pm.

It's going to be an emotional and fabulous show! The first place they performed at in the US! Wow.

I'm going to try, but we'll see. Those tickets are going to be hot!

Damn, I was too busy at work to try to call in to buy tickets. I bet it's sold out already. sad

They should come to San Diego, they were here for the Pop Trash tour and sold lots of tickets. Man, seeing them at the Roxy would be great!

Wow, I just read some info about the line and ticket sales on the Duran message board. Sounds like things didn't go well...

Did you get tickets?

Ahhh, I see, a mess!

Oh no, people waited for nothing?! Only a 20 tickets sold?! Rest on waiting list?! Busy line to phone in?!

I think maybe Duran needs to contact Prince on ticket selling.

Must have been hot today up there on the strip too! People are fuming!

Roxy reports from the DD message board:

When the show started, it was just pandemonium. I will comfort you all by telling you that I saw NO people around me that weren't honest to god Duran fans. They were all antsy and excited and when that curtain pulled up, they all went nuts. It made me feel better to be surrounded by fans, not industry goofs that just stood there like bumps on logs.

They opened with Friends of Mine and it sounded amazing. Powerful. Simon's voice was strong and clear and John's bass was going right through me. LOUD! For all of us John/Simon fans... Those two are BACK in a big way and just as playful as ever. What came as a wonderful surprise though, was how playful Andy was as well. There were many times when the guys would glance at each other on stage and just get the biggest, warmest grins. This is no act for the sake of getting back together; this was as genuine a brotherhood as it was in the beginning. I was relieved and elated to see that; it made the show extra special. For those of you going to OC and Vegas, you'll see what I mean, I promise.

HLTW followed and again, powerful. I didn't catch any misteps and Roger... Bless that man! He's a monster behind those pretty green Tamas. Simon and John kept playfully bumping into one another, and at one point, John nearly took Simon out. He put his shoulder against Simon's chest and pushed like a linebacker. Simon's eyes kinda bugged and he giggled like a kid. Andy got in on the act later, bumping backs with John during a song... Careless Memories..?

Planet Earth - Once again, BLESS ROGER TAYLOR!!! You know, you watch SBS and you see him, but until you're there... We all shouted ROGER in unison and he looked up and waved. He's very focused on stage. It was nice because, unlike in 84, I could actually see him over his drums. Much lower key kit, but it in no way diminished his attack.

Come Undone - Sorry, I mixed up my notes for this and OW... Andy carried this song beautifully and respectfully too, and the crowd really sang along. Simon did his gather the crowd and lick them from his fingers thing. Still hot, still sexy. smile

What Happens Tomorrow
Virus
These two songs just kick ass live. I can't say that enough. Virus is this crunchy, driving beat reminiscent of Careless Memories. On CD it may sound a bit different, but this is my perception of it live. At the end of Virus, J/S/A broke into a three part sounding harmony and everyone just lost it. They sounded so strong vocally; it was amazing. WOOF WOOF WOOF I really think you all are gonna dig Virus. What Happens Tomorrow was fabulous and Simon and John seemed pleased that some of us were singing the lyrics with them. During this and OW, Simon pointed to Nick and asked the soundboard to turn his mix up.

Nightboat - People aren't lying when they say the intro to this sounded exact. It gave me chills it was so great. I looked over when it came into swing and Simon was standing on the side of the stage and he was just watching them play with the happiest, most content look on his face. Very heartwarming. Again, when Andy broke into his little segment in the breakdown, everyone went crazy. He was very much on his game, and those of you that know me know that I was ready to toss Andy off a tall building with Bono when this reunion began. For me to rave over Andy really says something impressive, believe me.

Is There Something I Should Know - The three man harmony again at the intro to this. Shot me right back to 84 for a second. Really potent and just as relevant as it was back then. Andy and John were bouncing around and it was great.

ORDINARY WORLD - The stars here: Simon and Andy. Simon sang this better than I've ever heard it live. He didn't strain for those high notes and at one point while he was doing them, John looked over at him and got the proudest smile on his face. Andy for his part... Let me just say first that if we all hadn't been standing already, he would have had a standing ovation. He really and truly respected Warren's solo, but it was done with a flair that was very much Andy Taylor. The crowd went nuts. He really shined with that song and I was ecstatic for he and Simon. Lots of people around me yelled "Good job Simon" after that song. smile

Notorious/We Are Family - Simon did one of his tight spins at the beginning and I just died. It was SOOO FAST! GAWD! For any of you that doubted the Whirling Dervish... DON'T! HE'S BAAACK!!! *huge shiteating grin* Andy again just shone here. You could tell he was enjoying this song a lot. Simon didn't actually sing "we are family". Instead he mouthed the words as some of the crowd sang it and when they got to the "I got all my sisters with me" he made the air shape of a woman's figure with his hands and winked. It was a great transition and the crowd was really loud for the NO NO's. Simon and John shared Simon's mic for some of them and it was yummy.

Wild Boys - This just sent people into a frenzy. John was bouncing during the beginning like a pogo stick, slappin his bass and egging the crowd on. Simon kinda grinned at him and started bouncing too. I think Andy may have even got in on it, but so many fan hands were waving that it was hard to see him for a few seconds. His solo sent people crazy again and I was one of them. He rocked and Roger was, as usual, steady as ever. Simon's voice was still going perfectly strong. I was so proud of him!

Careless Memories - What can I say? It's Careless Memories. John. Andy. Crazy, wonderful axe poses. They love this song and so did the crowd. There were many times when Simon would go center stage and point to the stage beside him on either side like "C'mere you two!" and Andy/John would sidled up to him and they'd do this three musketeers vibe. It was fantastic. This song kicked ass even more than 84. They're back and they mean business and it showed in this song.

Encore:
Girls on Film
Rio
GOF was another hilight for Roger/Andy. John and Roger were SOOO in the pocket all night and Andy just laid down that song over the top like it was 81 all over again. Better even. His solo was another crowd riot and even Nick was back there grinning. Roger's just like a machine gun; he's so damn fast and smooth. He amazed me all night, and again, I saw them in 84 and this is a leaner, meaner band playing, let me tell you.
Rio was its usual fun live self set a notch higher. Don't know who the girl was that played sax, but she nailed Andy Hamilton's solo beautifully.
