Robot vs. Moonwalk

I just heard the Jackson Five's "Dancin' Machine" and it made me think of that mean ass Robot Michael would do during the break back in the day. Did he FREAK IT or what? Nobody did the Robot like Micheal!

However, his Moonwalk wasn't to shabby either! Didn't it earn him an Emmy (for doing it during the Motown's 25th Anniversary special)?

So which one's better? MJs Robot or Moonwalk?

Robot is FAR cooler and easier to do different variations. His robotics on the HIStory tour was the best thing about that rather shabby "live" (I say that loosely) show.

Watch the 1996 World Music Awards. There are some robotics there are are just so effortless. Moonwalking got old rather fast. He was a shit moonwalker in the 80s too. Much better in the 90s.

personally, I'm offended that people act like Michael invented the moonwalk when kids were doing in my neighbor way before mike did it on that motown special...he had some "pop lockers" teach him.

Right and it's called the "backslide" not the moonwalk, he just called it the moonwalk because he couldn't perfect the real one too well and moonwalk sounded better

I don't know who those people are, but I personally find it rather tedious how these days whenever you mention something MJ is famous for, someone comes along to discredit him no matter what it is. We all know he didn't invent the moonwalk, but every darn documentary I see on him has to talk about it and then point it out as if we didn't already know. I'd prefer the move not to have been mentioned at all because it's a dull cliché of a trademark that just serves to keep his legacy as a novelty 80s-ified fluke. I find that pretty much every achievement he's acomplished in his entire career has to have someone or other discrediting it. And I mean EVERY achievement.

Everybody knows that MJ didn't invent the "Moonwalk" or any other dance that he's put out there...okay maybe grabbing his crotch, but that's an exception all together. He just found a way to patent it and claim it as his own. That's water under the bridge now and wasn't the original question of this forum. I'm not trying to be an ass or anything, just trying to stay focused on what UptownDeb was asking. wink

I personally like MJ's robot. I've watched that performance, too and wondered how the hell does he do that?! Michael didn't even look human!!! But I've also seen Shaba-doo and Bogaloo Shrimp do the same thing (even better in my opinion) and wonder what are these cats made out of?! lol

How weird you're personally offended because some guy and one of his famous dance steps is mentioned on a message board. Anyway, every single time MJ is asked about the moonwalk he tells how he learned it "from the black kids on the streets" and all he did was made some modifications to it. So he's giving all the credit to who's credit due, u'r just hatin'.
Anyway, the moonwalk is great but u get used to it after a while. In the 1990ies he rather perfected his Robot dance moves (as well as the moonwalk) and i think there's just much more variation in the robot. Just watch the Earth Song performance @ WMA's in Monaco, or the VMA's in New York (the robot part is badly captured, but it's still amazing). Also, there's a compilation floating around the internet of his Stranger in Moscow performances during the HIStory tour, where he shows some great moves.
