Goddammit, Am I The Only Who's Completely Obsessed With Chaka Khan?? I Mean 4 Real Tho? Seems that I can't go through the week without posting a topic about her.
That voice,,,whew! its like she's neva afraid to tell you what EXACTLY she feels and she just let it all out spontaneously, there's certain innocence in her voice sometimes. So fresh, she just pick up the mic and sing without planning or reharsing(least it sounds like that to me) thats why I love her so damn much and it puts her on a row ALONE! I was watching VH-1 Behind The Music about Chaka the other day and I just realized HOW much I need 2 read her bio book. This very messy situation since I heard that Pepsi Charles(the co-author) died recenlty and CK is working on publishing the book by her own. My mother is not fond about American music at all(She's somalian) and she rather listens 2 Arabic artists betta, but she ADORES that woman so much and 2 me when my mother likes something then its a sign that I should get my ass up FAST and get what she like cuz I know it would be too damn hot. My daddy used to tell me that back in the 70's she was like the Singing Pam Grier 2 the brothas, even tho she's not as attractive as Pam, she had that SEXY vibe that made men trip all over her. Anyway, when and how did you guys got into Chaka Khan?

Rufus is how I got into her. "Tell me something good" is still just a jam.
I didn't really know what I was missing until I saw Prince with Chaka and Larry Graham. Then I was hooked and bought everything she's done. My favorite is this live Miles Davis CD with her on it (it's relatively new but I can't remember the name).

Many soul/R&B heads definitely give her her props, but I still believe that she hasn't gained the respect she deserves from the pop or rock industry (which she should considering that Rufus was a very loose, eclectic, and culturally diverse band to begin with).

I had the pleasure of kissing Chaka on her mouth once.
Well, it wasnt quite a plesasure. She was drunk. And it was after she had jammed together with the band I played with. She sat in on the drums and sucked bigtime.

We jammed at a place called Luna Park in West Hollywood (on Robertson). It was back in 96. She came by like she did a few times before. There'd always be some hip artists to sit in. Mica Paris. Miki Howard. Stevie. And Chaka. She is funny as hell. So she hangs out backstage, and she orders one bottle of champagne after the other. No need to tell that she was wasted when she hit stage and insisted on playing drums. For a minute she was cool. But then she didnt wanna leave. She missed the point, went to far. We had to kinda.. pull her off the stand. The way you pull a lady off the stand. After the show I asked her if she'd show up at the club I was running at the beach at that time. I gave her a flyer, she gave me a kiss. I was flattered but she tasted like a AA-member. But she did show up at my club for a few times that summer.

harley, there ain't nothin' wrong with being obsessed by
chaka. she's one of the best singers EVER in soul. I go back to when she began with Rufus circa 1972-73. she was a terror then and she'sa terror now. she has a rep as a bad ass-with a nasty temper. ask prince. he pissed her off back when he first got in the business. (i'm surprised she forgave him!) she used to do some serious drugs. she says she's chilled since then. i like her. she's a for real person if anybody has the BEAUTIFUL strange video compilation tape a highlight is her and prince doing "aretha's "baby i love you" prince is really digging on playing guitar for her. i don't mind that's she's heavier...she's still sexy as ever. no harley...U ain't alone. (now obsessed is a strong word) ha ha...LOve ya harley... charles
