Lost pop masterpiece: The Ballad Of Peter Pumpkinhead by XTC
I've just found in my mess my Nonsuch album tape, I haven't listened to it for years and I've almost forgotten how great this song is, in a normal world this song would have have been a big hit If you like , let's say, classic pop songs à la Beatles ( but even better!) get it by all means, even legals ones But he made too many enemies Of the people who would keep us on our knees. Hooray for Peter Pumpkin! Who'll pray for Peter Pumpkinhead? - [This message was edited Tue Jul 15 8:42:22 PDT 2003 by jn2]

Man, this is weird, I have been listening to this song like crazy for the last few days. Not so much the XTC version, although I downloaded it a couple of days ago, but the Crash Test Dummies version from the Dumb and Dumber soundtrack which I bought a week ago. Strange you brought it up though, you think?
Is there a good XTC compilation? I don't know any of their other stuff but this song is cool... Mark

Avoid the 2 first albums White Music, and Go 2
- the third album ( Drums & Wire) is good but the sound is maybe dated, with the great Making Plans for Nigel on it - Black Sea: good - English Settlement is terrific (Police meets Madness), get it! I don't know Mummer and Skylarking - The Big Sea is a very good record ( download Wake Up! if you want to have an idea , the first track , it's an irresistible song) - Oranges & Lemmons is very great, The Loving should have been n°1 and I love Scarecrow People - Nonsuch, less strong than Oranges & Lemmons imo but 10 times better than all the Oasis albums of course - I don't know the two last albums ( Apple Venus 1 & 2) *

Oh I know it and love it. have you ever been to xtc4u.org? though i disagree about avoiding any of the albums. I believe Drums and Wires to be a masterpiece, I don't know why you mentioned oasis... Apple Venus 1 is an orchestral magical delight! I love both apple venus's! "the foolish dog, bark at the flying bird" From "Jah Live" -Bob Marley
