Christina Aguliera speaks her mind

“I listened to my Mariahs and Whitneys and whatnot,” Aguilera says, hunching over in her army fatigue pants and boxing shoes. “And I respect some shit that crosses over, like Prince and Madonna.” (Yes, contrary to what you’ve hear, Aguilera does swear.) “but as far as bubblegum pop and manufactured shit, no. There’s no way. I wasn’t going home and listening to the Backstreet Boys when I got done with ‘Genie in a Bottle.’

but Aguilera does seem to be opening up. Talk turns to politics, and I think we’re on to something juicy. A certain pop diva comes up in conversation—the one with the rocks and the actor boyfriend (cough.. Jlo). Aguilera’s eyes roll. “I just read this article where they asked her, ‘So what are your views on the war?’ And she said, ‘Oh, I don’t really think about that kind of stuff. I leave it up to him’—and she points to [her boyfriend]. I understand if you say, ‘I’d rather keep my opinions to myself,’” Aguilera says, exasperated. “But to admit you don’t have any opinion of what’s going on in your country and the world? I was just like, wow. So what, I’m just here to look pretty and entertain? It’s just deeper than that to me, you know?”

I really dug her first album, especially the System produced Genie. When Dirty came out I figured it was over. He attitude seemed to me very "Mariah-like" around the time of it's release and the first single "Dirty" was trash. Lately though Christina is starting to win me back. I really like the song "Underappreciated" from her last album. Add to that she put on a little weight, dyed her hair and seems to be striving to be more than a Brittney wannabe. I hope she stays on track this time because she has a great voice.

"Genie in a Bottle" was not pop trash. That song was written and produced by David Frank of the 80's group The System. That song is great electro-soul. Even "What A Girl Wants" was more soulful than anything Brittney or JLo has done. I was just hoping for more of this type of stuff from her in the future.

HAHAHAHAHA.

I think Christina is the bomb - solely for the song "Beautiful". That, and her booty. But really, yeah, mostly, for the song. When my son died, that song took on a whole new meaning.

So the girl has an opinion about her retractors - PROPS TO HER. Don't forget you freaks, long ago, Madonna was pure fluff and nobody took her seriously... and then for awhile she was taken seriously, and, well, now, she's just a sad fluff again.

But I digress.

I like Christina's booty.

isn't she on tour with justin timberlake?
not pop??
rolleyes
might want to rethink that!

it makes me ill when some 'artist' (and i use that term loosely) try to be anti-pop. christina is the epitome of pop. ok. so j.lo made a poor comment on the state of the world. she's not exactly running for office, nor are her songs politically driven. so now christina is at the forefront of political issues? rolleyes 'i'm not into pop..blah blah blah'... but they all want that pop success and are right there when they have envelope opening ceremonies (i.e. grammy, vma, etc.)
and what's with the 'tough-girl' image? who's buying that?
yes! you are up there to look pretty and entertain, that's what you're paid for. now shut up and sing!

Frankly, I'd rather not hear Jennifer's opinion on political matters. She doesn't seem like she's informed of what's going on, so I don't want to hear her ignorant opinion.

First of all, let me get up an applaud the girl, clapping
You must admit, she speaks the truth. As far as her stuff being bubblegum pop, parts of her first album, yes, but "stripped" is far from bubblegum.
Put aside the whole "dirrty" image, and well, she's pretty cool. I mean, look at Madonna and Prince (yes, prince), when they first came out no one took them seriously and thought they were raunchy, sleazy, ect. I mean, at least the girl has talent, she gets props from me.
As far as her being on tour with Justin, yeah, that's a little fishy, but there are lots of hypocrites out there (ahem...Prince),I actually believe Christina as opposed to Avril, (who actually makes the music she speaks out against) Justin's "hot" right now (only god knows why) and she'd be a fool to pass that up; think about it, remember when Prince (yes, using him as an example once again) spoke out against rap, yet had tony m. rapping on his album? Madonna wore a Britney Spears shirt yet said she was ruining of music. I'm not comapring her music to Prince's or Madonna's, but she's not the first one to do this, just keep that in mind.

I'm really starting to like Christina Aguliera. Her latest CD is pretty good."Beautiful" is like a breath of fresh air,and she has another song "Loving Me For Me" that is incredibly soulful. That song is even played on one of our Quiet Storm/R&B radio stations. And,she can actually sing (what a concept, huh?).

I made a Slow Jam CD this past spring and I included Aguilera's "Get Mine, Get Yours" on it. The track is very sensual and her vocals complement the mood of the groove. It's the sexiest song she's made thus far. I like "Underappreciated" and "Beautiful" as well. From her last album, I was feeling "What A Girl Wants." To tell you the truth, when I first heard "Genie" I didn't think about The System or Electro-Soul...I thought about Britney-clones. During that time sh*t music was coming out right and left and I hated that song when it came out (I remember I was driving one night in Manhattan Beach and that song came on the radio and I literallly screamed in my car, but what do you expect when you listen to KIIS). LOL.

First thing I thought of when I heard Genie was "Someone is bitting the System hard" When I found out David Frank wrote and produced it, it wasn't a suprise. That song IS a System track all the way through.

I don't understand why some people think a singer or an actor shouldn't have political views because they entertain. What is that about? They should be concerned citizens just like the rest of us and they have the forum, due to their fame, to speak for those of us that cannot get our voices heard
