My only problem with beyonce...

ok, let me start off by saying i think she is a beautiful and talented singer. destiny's child and her solo stuff are always pretty good and her new solo song is great! my only problem with her is the fact that with every increase of her fame, i see a decrease of her clothes. i don't get it. isn't this the same woman who sang, in Survivor, "I'm not gonna compromise my christianity"? i'm not casting stones or anything like that, so don't jump on my back. i'm just curious as to when beyonce decided she would show as much skin as possible in order to sell a record. i don't remember Destiny's Child showing too much skin and i haven't almost seen kelly rowland's coochie or titties. so what is the deal with beyonce. and one last thing...isn't her FATHER her manager. something is wrong with that. its like he's selling his daughter as a sex symbol.

Well, I really don't think she needs to do all of that either. But I guess it's not so bad when you actually have talent. Thta is being sort of hypocritical. As afr as her father goes, yes, he's still her manager, and I have always found him disgusting and shady, so it doesn't surprise me.

I agree with you both in some ways, but, Beyonce is a grown woman, so if she wants to show ass to sell records, then I don't think her dad has any say in it. To me, Beyonce is just an o.k. singer.

Thank you. I actually got into a heated arguement at work, with my boss no less, over her attire a couple of months ago. I was like, isnt' her father her manager and doesn't her mother make her clothes? I would never let my daughter dress like that. He was like, as long as my daughter brings in the money, she can dress however she wants. To me, thats like prostituting your own daughter. I couldn't believe that she was not ashamed to shake her ass the way she did in front of her father at the BET awards. And I can't believe that he was able to sit in the audience and watch. Most dads are more protective of their daughters.

I had this same argument with a friend of mine, who said pretty much what your boss said. He said "If if was my daughter, and she was doing her thing and gettin' paid, I wouldn't be mad at her". I was like, WTF? Can we raise our little girls to have some respect for themselves?

I have 2 admit, this same thang bothers me alot.

I love Bey! but she's a hypocritical 4 writing the song "Nast Girl" since she's dissing HERSELF right now. But then again like ya'll said, why the hell are her parents enjoying this shit? Talking about PIMP parents.

I get the feeling that Beyonce will *split* from her parents at the end and she would do alot of interviews complaining about their treatment.

Beyonce is an adult now. She doesn't need her mom or dad to tell her what to wear. (and she wears real fashion now, not mom's sewn creations).

Secondly, when she did past Destiny's Child's records she was in her teens. She is 21 now. 21. 21. Remember that year when you felt like you were becoming an adult.

I feel that age milestone is one of the reasons she's coming out of her couture shell and fleshin' it up. She wants to be more provacative. Many girls on the brink of womanhood are like that in their early twenties because they are just happy to have STUFF. Then when you get older, you mature, and you realize just because you've got stuff doesn't mean you have to go around flashin' it.

Now, I personally subscribe to my own brand of feminism. And I don't find Beyonce's state of undress demeaning, wheras I do with Lil' Kim sometimes and did with Mariah when she had her ass cheeks hanging out in Loverboy. Pathetic.

What's the difference? Mariah seemed a boy toy, whereas Beyonce's is a stronger, in-control image.

To me, Beyonce appropriates sexuality as POWER, not as some desperate cry for attention. She can command the room with her presence and part of that is her sensuality. The effect of Beyonce's undressing is that it's a superb expression of physical feminine beauty. The curves, the mocha skin, the way she moves -- ART. The female figure is nothing to be ashamed of if you unveil it gracefully.(Plus, the girl can sing so she's not just riding sexiness as a claim to fame).

Unlike Lil' Kim and Mariah, Beyonce is not some woman who strips as a desperate cry for male attention. (Don't forget that when she's on stage in those scanty clothes, she doesn't call for the men. It's always "Where my ladies at!")

Her lyrics clearly show she's not shamelessly throwing herself at men. She makes them respect her.

If I were her parents. I'd be very pround to watch her. She commands the stage as a classy, sophisticated, sensual specimen who's coming into her womanhood and playing it for all it's worth.

I'm fine with that. When she's older, she'll cover up.

I never thought I'd be defending her, but...

She's a grown ass woman and it doesn't matter if her father is her manager, she can wear what she wants. I rather she that than Brandy mom/manager saying she wasn't allowed to show her navel. I was like damn, what's the big deal about a navel. I would never let my parents control what I wear especially when I'm grown

This was very eloquently put, but the guys I watch her videos with, ain't about respecting her. Showing the crack of your ass, ain't classy.

i would agree with you but my point is addressing the self proclaimed christianity. It doesn't particularly matter what age she is, if she is trying to show a christian "way" she needs to be dressed. Destiny's Child appeared on a Mary Mary song, they've been involved in religious themed events and like i said earlier, the lyrics in survivor make a claim to it. I thought it was just a phase, this barely clothed and breasts hanging out, but it seems to be more than that. don't be fooled by marketing. this woman is using her sexuality to sell her music and image. there's nothing wrong with that...until you get on stage and start thanking God for what you have. God wants you to keep your clothes on. smile

Bey, isn't out in the streets selling her ass.

She is a sex symbol of our times. There's nothing wrong with that.

Sure it's a little , well ...alot , creepy that it seems like her pops pimps her out like that.

But she's in the music BUSINESS.

Her image is about weighs in 99% more importantly than her talent.

True dat about her image. I could name ten more talented singers off the top of my head, but I guess they aren't willing to show their assets.

so god wants us to keep our clothes on?

that's why we come into this world naked huh?
i think its funny how people like prince(who by the way merges sex and god, and has shown almost all his skin over the years, and in some of those pants well, we know his religion) and madonna just get peeps by showing what everyBODY else has. people feel SHAME by what is just nature. god does promote sex ya know and just because someone is showing the skin while still talking up god does not mean they is some skank hoochie. if anything they should be praised for there comfort in themselves and their faith. fewer clothes do not mean a diminished love for god. and by the way, imnotjustsayingthistobenasty, what do you wear to the beach? black and white puritan robes.
